RiftSpace - run out of COFFEE for the trip!

Post by Storm »

Two minor questions. NOT asking for spoilers, but hints if appropriate.

I've started over with a new profile (same callsign) for a few reasons. Doing GREAT in a Talon; pacified one system from Fair to Good so far (just Olympus though), *hardly used any missiles*, now that I know how to "fly with guile" - I'm getting good at avoiding missiles shot at me, and shooting missiles out of the sky *while* engaged in combat. Only got destroyed once, I was in a "dogpile" of reds, and I was being stubborn.
:)
However, I think I need to work up to a Phoenix or a Hunter before I proceed to other systems.

The first time through, I worked my up through the beacon quest, "visited the Vonari" (hehehe - like "visiting a relative infected with rabies"), and I feel I have a handle on RiftSpace, Al's Quay, jumping Black Holes, etc (first time, in a Leviathan, took me a few tries but I came up with a technique of my own that seems to work every time - and now I've verified that it will work with a typical Talon).

But I'm wondering if I missed something.

(1) (In case there was something I missed the first time); The path to RiftSpace is *always* going to be long, correct? Many MANY forced jumps (ALT F2). DID I miss something, is there a shorter way to it; a "back door" that I missed? No big deal if there isn't, I just want to know if I missed another "Game Secret". (I know, I could mod the game, but I don't want to do that). Just "NO, there is no shorter way" (which I suspect is the correct answer), or "YES, there is a quicker way there" (maybe followed by an obtuse hint).

(2) Not so important question. Ummm... do Fulcrum Torpedoes have any real PRACTICAL purpose ... other than as "party favors" to bring to MP?
("you guys look kinda cold here in MP... here, let me increase the thermostat... there, should be warmer in a few moments")

- Thanks

1. Nope....the long way to the Jump Gate is the only one I know of to getting to rift space.

2. Fulcrum Torpedoes are great against Capital ships as it only takes one good aimed shot to take it out...just be sure you are out of the blast radius or you could go up in smoke with it :D.

A lot of Pilots...usually the new ones :D or a select few veterans of ER....use them as Party favors in PvP....he-he. Congrates on making it to rift space.....I am assuming you found the wormhole to Vonari? did you also find the Hidden starport too? and the worm hole back to known space? Glad your having fun Storm ;)

Thanks BraveHart.

Since I like to work on reputation (I will keep a couple of hostile systems, maybe Aries and Sierra for practice); and I've never SEEN a Rebel or Guild Capital Ship, then I guess we are saying take Fuclrum Torps as "gifts" to the Bug Capital Ships.

I don't remember EXACTLY what all I did near/during the end of the beacon quest. I have a hardcopy of a LOT of snippets from the forum (an unsorted collection of post-fragments, as advice and hints)... I DID make it make to known space. But I saved to many other slots during that time. It was kind of ... "feverish", that journey.

I went back to save slots that were positioned in RiftSpace (and later to a save slot that I had for Vonari space). From those slots, I experimented and started taking notes. It was AFTER that, I "discovered" (found out about) the "HitcherHiker's Guide", and to be honest THATS how I found out about the hidden Vonari station.
