Cargo and physics...

Post by Vice »

Turns out, the code changes weren't too major for this when I looked into it, so I'm adding it for the next update.

The cargo you are carrying will now be a factor in the physics system. Your top speed and general limits will remain the same, but the rate at which you can maneuver and accelerate/decelerate (to those limits) will be effected by the weight of the cargo you are carrying. Your ship is obviously the biggest weight factor in the equation, so cargo will have a relatively minor impact, but the difference will be significant. Here are the general parameters:

- Maneuverability and acceleration/deceleration can be reduced by about 27% with a full load in all 5 cargo bays.
- Individual equipment and weapons are large enough when loaded into your cargo bay to weigh almost what a full load of 25 units of a commodity weighs.
- The physics system is updated when you make a change to your cargo, whether it's buying, selling, trading, discarding, or jettisoning.
- If you are struggling with the agility of your ship and want a minor boost in agility, you can jettison your cargo bay for added maneuverability.

That is a Very Good Ideal and really adds to the realistic atmosphere you have already created ;)

You can do anything. I never doubted you could do it.

Nor did I. I just doubted whether it would be feasible and jolly, it was :). Awesome.

Will this have an additional affect on 'Gravity' zones? For example the pull when close to a sun or planet.

Since at any given altitude the acceleration of gravity is constant for all objects, regardless of mass, maneuverability and acceleration *SHOULD* be reduced inside and outside a gravity field equally.

Ok, that sparks a question then. I take it constant pull is part of the game physics? I know from too much Discovery Science channel that large celestral objects have a stronger pull than smaller ones and some objects(ie blackholes) have a point of no return. Now..I'm still a newbie to Evochron so I haven't explored the game universe far enough to get a sense of what or if any of this is present and how it affects ships.

stars and blackholes have a much larger gravitational pull, there is a point of no return for both of them, but you go boom from shield damage first!

some blackholes form wormholes, if you can survive, you can take advantage of that ;)
