Black Hole Wormhole

Post by Paul »

I managed to find rift space, saw the sights, explored the wormholes, etc, and then I saw the black hole wormhole. After some quick thinking I managed to plot a relatively safe course through (still took heavy damage, im sure the others who have done it know what I mean, unless theres an even safer way). The result was a bit...disappointing? Was this intended?

Somewhat spoiler:
The other (much safer) wormhole sent me to relatively the same spot. Shouldn't flying through a black hole send you somewhere... different? Maybe some hidden system or something? Making it through a black hole was kinda fun, at least.

Also, some comments on the game:
I have to say the game is a lot of fun. It's a bit too simple in many aspects for my tastes, as I prefer a bit more complex trading/docking and reputation systems, but I'm enjoying it. The beacons were mostly pretty challenging, but I wound up accidentally finding #4 by doing missions in the sector (which was quite confusing until I went back and did 1-3 and found the other half of the message). #9's puzzle took me a bit of time to figure out, and some searching around.

I also tried to use the same technique of flying through the blackhole to land on planets from space, but all I managed to do was explode directly on the landing pad. Is this completely impossible or am I doing something wrong?

Sort of. Originally, there was no other way to a certain system in the game, but a regular pathway was added by player request and the original blackhole was simply left in the game's universe rather than removing it.

I'm not sure there is a way to fly through a blackhole to land on a planet, so I may not be understanding what you're referring to here. Technically, you could jump/warp directly to a city docking station using the jump drive, but I don't think anyone has successfully accomplished that yet.

Good to know the black hole thing was at least initially a special thing. It seemed pretty strange to have such a dangerous wormhole send you the same place as the safer one.

As for the planet landing, I meant jumping onto the docking station using a similar approach that I used to getting through the black hole, not using a black hole to get onto a planet.

All I managed was to do was repeatedly crash onto the landing pad without the tractor beam kicking in. I kept adjusting my jump by tiny increments but even with numerous jumps all around and on top of the docking station the tractor beam never kicked in to stop me from being incinerated.

Yeah, if you did somehow manage to survive, you would have to jump at a very precise point with the exact pitch and heading to appear right on the pad. A very challenging jump for sure :)

Thats the thing, it looked like I was appearing right on the pad in several of my jumps, the beam just didn't catch me. I can do the same thing for stations and jump right in the docking area, but for the planet it just explodes me.

It actually looked like I was crashing into the center of the docking area and dieing on some of my jumps, so maybe I was jumping down toward the planet surface and the beam couldn't catch me in time to stop me from colliding with it. I guess if someone could figure out a way to jump in skimming across the top instead of slamming into the docking area they might be able to make it, but the gauges on planet seem to be different from space - you can target an area that would be directly in front of you in space and find that its in a diff direction on the planet.

In Saphirre there is blackhole/wormhole, but when I come close I explode... And I don`t have to mention that I am now very curious what is on the other side of a wormhole... Is it even possible to pass through? I think I tried every angle, and speed, reverse flying...

Well, from what I've mustered you need to set the jump coordinates in such a way that you end up inside the wormhole after emerging from jumpspace. Else, the event horizon of the black hole will kill you.

Best I've managed so far was triggering the wormhole jump sequence before blowing up. I'm a bit reluctant to try that again...

*Boom*
"Ah well, 3 more klicks on the Y-Axis, then..."
*Boom*
"...maybe 2 more on the Z coords?"
*Boom*
"Just a bit more to the left..."
*Boom*

...it gets tiresome after a while.

I have been most successful at going through the wormhole in the black hole by jumping to a location outside of the black hole and flying manually towards the wormhole. Once I am close enough and I see my shields start to drop, I point my nose right at the wormhole and engage the jump drive. As long as my flight path takes me through the wormhole, the wormhole overrides my plotted jump and I make it through successfully and without any damage.

Wasp has identified one of the most common (and easiest) techniques, There is another technique though that does not involve using your jump drive.

I've not managed it my self, but it involves having exactly the right pitch and facing ( black holes don't sit 'flat' on one plain) if you have it right you should be able to fly through........

Ah, I remember back in the days when you could actually fly through one of those black holes and survive. Good times, killed a lot of people in Multiplayer by just luring them.

I have just managed to jump through the RS Black hole worm hole. It took about 8 attempts to work out when to hit F2, I can see why other options were put in place.
