different store than what MMaggio linked to... Thanks Vice! I hope to order one soon. (we jsut found out we'll be closing on the house within the week so I should know how much money I have or don't have soon)
Actually, it IS the same store. I just dble-checked myself. I see the home page has changed and it is a little harder to find, but that's it.
Have fun... MM

You are very welcome. Glad I could help.
If anyone else out there is having trouble loading or writing gaming profiles with their Saitek controllers, or just if you want to ask questions about what it can or can't do, I'll be glad to help.

anyone have any suggestions for getting a throttle control to allow reverse and afterburner at the bottom and the top of the throttle action? I just got an x52 pro and can't get the afterburner to work without breaking down the throttle positoon to relay keys. When I break down the throttle position however those keys are always relaying to the computer. This causes an overload in the key buffer when I'm not in game and the computer beeps at me nonstop. If I only set the afterburner detent and above to the TAB key and leave the rest set for throttle I can get the afterburner to work at top throttle but the software only leaves me with 0-80% throttle remaining... so I can't set full throttle without afterburner...
Another problem I'm having is with the secondary hat switch. For some reason I can set the strafe keys to my hat but I can't combine them in the diagonals. So i can go up and right but not both at the same time.
Anyone out there have an x52 rpo that can give me some hints on setting this thing up. I really like the flight control feel but I gotta get it set right. Any help would be much appreciated.
I don't know if I explained any of that very well. I may have even confused myself .

Hi. What you want to do is possible with the Saitek X52 but it requires some tricky programming with the Saitek gaming profile.
One of the problems involved is that if you select to create a pilot profile using the Saitek software, you'll have to clear all key assignments you may have made within Vices games. Since you want to alter the throttle axis, you'll have to delete that as well.
For further info, contact me direct U2U or email. ICQ is best tho as it allows real-time chat.

Programming within the sim is obviously the easiest and arguably the best way to program your controller.
But, to do what AH wants requires "banding" the throttle control which can only be done with the Saitek gaming program. If you elect to do that, then it is necessary to delete the sim assignment to avoid command conflicts.
The way Vice has set up his in-game programming allows for axis assignments as seperate from key assignments. Example, you can use his game for controlling axis' only, then write a pilot profile for keystokes. But any & all key commands in-game must be deleted if you want to use the gaming profile.
Since AH wants to modify the throttle axis, he must delete that from the in-game assignment as well.
I hope that explains it.

I voted mouse, althought, technically it should be MOUSE + KEYBOARD as it's impossbile to control with mouse alone.
I have a gamepad, mainly got it for console emulation, although I rarely use it as it's best for emulation and I try to run my games on the original console or with emulators on newwer consoles which already have "better" controllers.
Joysticks: Bah! Spent $50 on a joystick that lasted maybe 5m or so, so NEVER again! Especially when you consider that I own old Atari joysticks nearly 30y old that still work perfectly along with others inthe same condition meanwhile cheap "modern" joysticks crap out if you look crosswise at them!
I agree Sir Cutterjohn. I too, am still using my Atari 2600 with it's original controllers.
I sympathize with your bad experience with after-market joysticks. I swear I have over 30 asst'd controllers that proved useless for one reason or another.
BUT.....
The Saitek "X" series controllers are the most powerful, programmable controllers in the world.
Once you have used one, you'll never go back to K&M.
I never met a gamer who preferred K&M to the Saitek "X" series.
On the other hand, I have played against many pilots who have mastered K&M better than me and my Saitek!
[well, not really. I just said that to make you feel better]

I recently just looked at some of the ~$30-50 Saitek and Logitek (about the only ones making joysticks at "reasonable" prices from what I could see), but I kept seeing customer reviews turning up joysticks that were dieing quickly, both for Saitek AND Logitec(I think that these were never as good though).
I even went and looked at the customer reviews then of some of the more expensive joysticks and was seeing the same kind of feedback, so I decided to just shelve it for the time being.
(The reviews were from newegg plus a couple of other gaming sites.)
A joystick IS better to play with, but if all you can get are low quality over priced controllers, why bother with them? Plus I'm planning to get a netbook soonish (waiting to see if the various mfgs come out with some better designs with the new CPUs, and hopefully somewhat better GPUs) which will mean that if I can get Renegades to run decently (should be able to) that I won't be lugging around a joystick to play it with.
my first joystick lasted about six months then broke (imho logictech stuff suxx )
I felt the same, but decided to get another one, while Saiteks 'x' series was out of my budget I went for their st290, and well over 18 months later its still working fine, and thats with 2 young kids regularly using it as a play-toy.
As I've often stated, excellent buys on Saitek "X" series controllers can be found on Ebay, as well as reconditioned units from Saitek themselves.
Have fun...

I prefer the X45. I like the "rocker" for roll/yaw. I have three of them!
I can't say that I've ever noticed a problem with responce time unless I added a usb extension. Even that problem was easily solved.
I suppose it's possible that the X52 and X52Pro might be faster, but the X45 is more "user friendly" and imho easier to program.
I do have an X52Pro and still prefer the X45, so it's not like I haven't tried them both.
Whatever you choose, the Saitek "X" series controllers are the most powerful, programmable controller in the world.
And yes, I am prejudiced!:P But only from experience.

I'm using an ancient Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro joystick. How long have I had this thing? No idea. It's still going strong, though.
I also have a set of CH Rudder Pedals, but so far I think I prefer just using the twist control on the joystick for rotation. Haven't decided if I want to use the pedals for some other axis (thrust?)
