Hiya
My clan are trying to set up a dedi server but we get this error
"System Error: ERROR 165. D3D Devices do not support backbuffer bit-depth and HW acceleration"
It's a decent machine (we can run many other dedi server exes on it, GTR2, ArmA, BF2... etc etc).
It's got the latest drivers and Direct X but we're still getting the error. Any ideas?

That means the system does not have 3D video drivers properly installed, so DirectX (D3D) can't enable, which is needed for this server program. Open DXDIAG, click on the Display tab, if the test buttons are grayed out, D3D isn't working and you'll just need to reinstall drivers and make sure D3D can enable, then it should work fine.

See that Guys? A reply to a query in less than 6 min!!!:D I dare say there is no other "indie" that has that kind of support!
Heck, I doubt if even ol' Carwash even knows his problem has been answered!:P
What a way to run a game!

Hiya
Thanks for the swift response but this isn't the problem. DXDIAG shows that D3D is working properly (at least all the tests pass...) and as I said above all the drivers and direct X version are up to date.
Any other ideas?

Interesting. Something is telling the program that basic D3D functions are not available. So it's either no D3D at all or perhaps you're using a wildly outdated video card from 1998 or something. Is your desktop running in 32-bit color? If you complete the steps here, I may be able to determine what the cause is:

REMEMBER: if you're using Win2K3, video hardware accel is NOT set to full by default. You have to go into desktop properties, advanced, and turn the accel up in order for D3D to even show up in DXDIAG.
Ran into this yesterday.
