Is there any way to "recover" messages?

I am whizzing somewhere, fighting off the whole world and his dog and I get a message in the top left corner to fly to a specific location. Whille my memeory is good, I cannot remember both the Secor co-ordinates and the normal co-ords, and I can't write and shoot and read at the same time.

I appreciate that Alt [Num Pad] / can recall deleted messages, but what about those you simply didn't get time to read.

Or do I get myself a voice memo thingy off E bay?

Alt-Numpad / can recall both deleted messages and messages that time out and disappear. Anything that is put into the message log is stored for retrieval later with that key option. If you want to store it more permanently for later sessions, then I'd recommend entering information you want to keep into the map log.

Thanks Vice.

I tried the Alt / but it did not seem to work. I will do some trading to create messages and then see if its me (in the heat of battle) or some other probem I have.

Never thought about the map log, but then when trying to beat up Bad Guys, you don't want to try and type in all down, unless there is a keystoke set to auto copy into the Map Log.

Now theres a good idea........

It does require typing, but access to the log is just two clicks or key strokes away. If you want another quick way to store a message on the screen, press print screen, which will copy the screen to memory, which you can then paste in an image editor later. Another option is to run fraps or another screen capturing utility in the background, then snap a screenshot whenever you want to save something. Key functions are reaching there limit and only a few are left, they will likely be best saved for any potential future gameplay functions.

The message queue does get cleared if you die (events that trigger messages are generally reversed when you restore your last save point anyway), so you'll want to save any messages when they appear. To lower your risk and give you more time, it's a good habit to get into safer navigation, evasion, and planning your battles in advance if you need extra time to log something.

Assuming you were where I assume you were, then you could have just gone through the gate and back again, and the message would have been displayed.

In RiftSpace, the 10th beacon is set to broadcast those coordinates to any ship that is identified as Alliance or Mercenary; as such, it is set to broadcast it repeatedly to anything that enters RiftSpace that ISN'T Renegade. Atleast, I think; that's my logical deduction.

Poodle (where did you get that name?)

I was where you thought I was!!

I have it sorted now and I am happy to recover messages. My problem was that the Alt didn't work, but when I used Alt Gr (the right hand side on a UK board) then all was well.

It gets busy where you thought I was doesn't it! My problem is that if I go else where, it take sages to get back to you know where!!

Then don't *permanently* go elsewhere. Save in (?), then go through you-know-what to get you-know-where, or wherever you want to get, like Von or Sol... or Sapphire... or wherever, then self-destruct when you're ready to get back. Don't buy stations, trade, or jettison, and you'll be able to F7 your way back from wherever.
