questions in regards to new MP system and dedicated servers

Hi,

With the new system for connecting to MP, is it not possible/easier to host through a router ( my wife wouldn't be happy if i hosted through a router)?

Secondly there are a couple of 24/7 servers up currently, would another one be welcomed or is it felt that this would just dilute the player base?

Being the well-known member of the community you are, there would likely be a heavy concentration of players on your server because everyone loves you. I think it'd be a great idea.

Hosting through a router is much like before, just different ports are needed to be open/forwarded. This is true of just about any multiplayer game though. The difference now is that clients no longer need to manually forward their ports to join a session.

Secondly there are a couple of 24/7 servers up currently, would another one be welcomed or is it felt that this would just dilute the player base?

Not sure on this one, both servers seem to see fairly consistent activity patterns. Another server may or may not be beneficial overall, but it's open for as many servers as there are interested hosts. If there were dozens of players using multiplayer consistently throughout the day, then 3 or 4 servers could be very beneficial. With the cycle of peak on/off activity currently (quiet mid-day and night, more active evenings and mornings), having fewer meeting places means more players will likely join on the same server. Since it's something you're interested in getting feedback on, I'd recommend talking it over with the current server operators to get their input on it, perhaps jointly the best setup could be arranged.

Yeah that was pretty much my stance before when I ran the VerbsERserver , and I'm still of that mind myself. It seems like MP is starting to pick up as well, So I'm not really inclined to rock the boat. my main reason for asking is that there is now a 'default universe, as well as the evopup, and hopfully soon well get a peek at the evoAUP too, I'll discuss it with the other server operators, and to be honest much as I enjoyed running the server I did, I'm glad to have what little free time I do ( that and it means I can fly when there are others flying too
