A few newbe questions regarding this AWESOME game.. ?

Post by Krelian »

Hi,
Just downloaded the trial version of the game.

Well, i really dont wanna jinx it, BUT MAN!! What an awesome game!! Really,

IT EVEN lets me design my own ship (so i can make it look like cap ship^^) and man it with crew members!! I.E my own little Battlestar Galactica, heheh!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SORRY!!
This'supposed to be a questions thread, sorry for veering off topic...

So here it goes;

1-I am currently using the mouse-steering option to control my ship. BUT EVEN if im told in the tutorial mode that pressing&holding the ''ALT'' key makes the mouse cursor appear, IT DOESN'T do that. I wanna be able to press the ALT key so i can press on stuff on the HUD with my mouse cursor, (as told in tutorial),,, but it doesnt work....

Any ideas,, please?

2-I also have a Saitek X52 joystick (CURRENTLY NOT* HOOKED UP), and i know its a personal taste/preferance,

but for a game like Evochron renegades, which one do you recommend? (Keyb&mouse OR X52) ?

3-We can scale the size/position etc... of engines, fuel tank etc... (VISUALLLY),,,
Is it ALSO possible to change the scale of the main frame?? (such as Talos scout frame etc...) ?

4-How could any1 make such an awesome game at such a low/decent price with such a small download size with such options ALL-Thrown together that i've been looking for all my life in space-sim games? :D

**Thank you very much in advance! Once i figure a few more things out here, i will DEFINETLY be buying the game!! :)

Don't worry, i don't think we're the best forum for staying on-topic :P

try the other mouse control option
which one do you recommend? (Keyb&mouse OR X52) ?
i got an saitek st290 pro and its fantastic, and quite a few users (including the creator of the game use the x52, so the answer is: x52

Is it ALSO possible to change the scale of the main frame?? (such as Talos scout frame etc...) ?
'fraid not, there is a very good reason for this, i just can't remember what

check this out to explain the size http://www.starwraith.com/dsize.htm.
The Games design is user based, so if there is a demand for it ( and its possible) then it'll appear here. Recent examples of this are crew members and the news ( and online) news console.

Hope to see you flying soon, and remember if you ever need the protection of a clan, NS is here for ya! ;)

The training mode states that if you are using the 'Mouse Point' flight control mode, you can hold the ALT key to temporarily suspend flight control. There are several mouse control modes, the direction modes make the mouse function like a joystick and do not involve a pointer at all for flight control, so they don't have a task switch system for the pointer. Once you open a console in a mouse direction mode, then the mouse pointer appears. Switch to the point control mode if you want to use the alt switch option for the pointer.

Obviously a subjective personal opinion, but I'd also recommend the X52.
3-We can scale the size/position etc... of engines, fuel tank etc... (VISUALLLY),,,
Is it ALSO possible to change the scale of the main frame?? (such as Talos scout frame etc...) ?
No, it's the 'core' structure for all other components to be attached to. Scaling of the frame would effect scaling of all other components because of the way 3D objects are set up (limbs depend on the parent mesh for overall orientation and scale) and some quirky things can happen (like throwing off accuracy for engine exhaust outlets). However, you can import custom ship frames using whatever scaling and orientation you'd like to try.
4-How could any1 make such an awesome game at such a low/decent price with such a small download size with such options ALL-Thrown together that i've been looking for all my life in space-sim games?
Years of work, an obscene amount of coffee, persistence, and wanting such a game myself. For the download size, as Verb points out, visit: http://www.starwraith.com/dsize.htm
**Thank you very much in advance! Once i figure a few more things out here, i will DEFINETLY be buying the game!!
Glad you enjoy the game!

The answer to that question is more mysterious than you know! There has been some talk, just talk, mind you, that Vice just might not be, "of this earth"!;)
Now this is just speculation, but he has been known to fix game errors within 15 min of the error being posted.
Did I forget to say that Vice is the greatest programmer "extant"?
Anyway, the longer you hang around here you'll begin to share the "alien intelligence" theory!:P
Have fun!

How Vice does it? Simple, he's got us, and he's got himself. Mix that up with caffeine and boil for 10 minutes. Tadaa, you got...

Uh, well... Um... I guess you'd then have... something like... Vice and us boiled in caffeine?

I have tried both the mouse and joystick. I prefer the Joystck, it makes controlling the ship so much easier.

I'm gonna add a question, which may seem noobish because i have played E:R quite a bit !

Do the wing systems actually affect the roll/pitch/yaw rate and therefore agility of the frame they are fitted to?
and if so , how much % effect (or absolute agility score)does wing system 1 provide and how much % effect (or absolute agility score) does wing system 10 provide?

Yes. It's a complete wing thruster system you install.

Depends on the frame, here is the chart: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronreneg ... de.htm#203

verbosity;

Thx alot for the timely answers;)

thetiebers; yupp i finally fully configured my x52 and it really beats the keyb&mouse setup. (BUT OFCOURSE mouse controls are well made too, in this game)

vice: about training mode: my bad, misunderstood a few details back than, but now im on track:)
Umm,, so i recon ur the developer of the game? Are you also the one who made the male voice-overs in the game? Just wondering, heheh.

MMaggio; DUUUDE!! If we say out loud that Vice might not be from earth, the ''Men in Black'' or the CIA something.... might take him away from us,,, than we wont have any more updates or new games to look forward to,,, so lets just pretend that he is not super-human :D

Eclipse; ofcourse im looking for the continuation of such a delightful sim franchise... But to be honest im uncertain(afraid) as to how far the developer can keep up the good work, without the backing of the UBER-GAMING-TYRANTS such as EA and so on.....

tha_rami; Simply put; ROFL heheh....

jazzylg; Thanks, mate!

Le Sauvage; That it does! But my ''J'' seems to be almost too sensitive to motion,,, mabe i should look up the options a little bit,, but ofcourse it still great!

mcmad; Good question! Please feel free to ask here on this thread again, as the answers you get here can be assistance of not only to you,, but all us newbies:)

warsign; Uhhh,, im honored that you'd like to fly together,,, (one day)but im such a newb that i would just end up making a fool of myself now, hehe! Dont wanna make you guys look bad:D

BraveHart: Much appriciated!! The gods of Evochron....? Is it like the gods in battlestar galactica or something?? Well that IS the series that got me intrested in all this sci-fi space+ship business........

So, my hats off to those gods!! :P

LoL many have thought that, but time and again Vice pulls thedefining space sim out of his hat, each time beat what the major gaming houses when they try to out-do him.

( a few examples)
1.seamless planet descents ( i believe this first appeared in the first Evochron)

2. 3d cockpit that you can look around in ( I think this was either introduced in Arvoch conflict or evochron allaince)

3.seamless ( or 'boxless' ) universe, you can fly from one corner to the other in one go - if you've got enough time ( Evochron Renegades)

and the list just goes on and on......

beyond that Vice has something the others don't, us! Seriously how else can you give the fans what they want without listening to them?

Myself I'd love to see what Vice will pull out of the hat the next time he starts a new project, but I'm equally excited by the fact ER is an alive and evolving game ( another unique feature of starwraith games), since it was released there have been many new features, the universe itself has changed and expanded, and I'm sure we are only at the begining of its jounney ( the last evochron went through so many changes that near the end it was almost unrecognisable)......
