I love the third view, the one thats kinda cinematic, but not great for combat, and it makes some flight manouvers kinda tricky

would it be possibly to 'lock' the viewing anlge of this in relation to the ship itself?, that way this view could be used like a more versitile version of the 'chase view'? my suggestion for the keys used would be something along the lines of ctrl+Delete ( or similar) , while it probably wouldn't be used much, those of us that like to flim stuff in evo would find it a real boon ( or should that be BooM? :P )

Great idea, you could get some really cool sequences if the view could be locked. Vice is there any way this could be done ? Please please please:cool:

If I understand you correctly, you can already do that. Switch to the third view (V key twice), then use the view controls to pan around your ship and lock the camera in any position you want with the focus on the ship. Insert, Home, Page Up, and End control the view position, Delete and Page Down will zoom in and out.

that sets the view on the ship in relation to the 'background', if you then turn the ship the ship rotates, I'm suggestion an option similar, but once 'locked' when you turn the ship the ship stays in position and the background rotates ( If that makes sense)

Oh, I got ya now, that would probably require another key function unfortunately. I'll ponder some ideas, this one might be tough. In the meantime, if you're good with the HAT, you can probably get pretty close by manually controlling the camera to keep up with the movement of the ship.

yeah i thought it'd be tricky, i was going to suggest something similar with the second view system, but knowing how its done I thought it would probably be impossible,

as to the key, since is wouldn't be used much could i suggest one of the current keys used in the third view mode used in conjunction with ctrl?

Nope, control is the primary weapon key by default. That's the tough part, having to shut down a critical game function in exchange for something entirely different.

What other key would you want to combine with it to activate the mode?

Lol, this might be even more tricky than I first thought, beyond controls. Since the camera system is Euler dependent, it wants to roll and twist a bit when trying to stay focused on the ship from a locked position, there's not really an easy way to lock it in place with Quaternion rotations (there's no point camera function for quaternions). The mystery deepens :)

yeah in a sense, 'cept currently that view only allows you to see the ship from the rear

Vice that makes me think, how about using the second ( first person) view, but being able to use the Delete/ insert pg up/down buttons to rotate the ship model?

this might be a bit easier ( if its actually possible ) but add the complication of having to alter how the ship controls work ( so that forward is forward as the ship faces rather than 'screen' forward)

Maybe, except the view controls still work in the 3rd person view mode for looking left, right, up, and down.
