New HUD

Post by rivalin »

I got a bit bored with the default HUD and I'm learning a new vector graphics app so I thought it would be fun to make a new one. It's not really recommended for beginners because I've removed a lot of the hand holding (labels, text warnings, redundancies etc) and I tried to make it look more like an actual visor mounted holographic hud or something,

It's almost complete and I can release it as it is, but a couple of the textures havn't been redone because (I think) they're either mislabelled or omitted entirely from the customizing kit (couldn't find the texture for the incoming missile warning bars, the inbound missile highlight box (the texture referenced in the kit actually changes the nav screen nav marker icon) or the status bar on the right hand computer screen) If the customizing kit gets updated then I can redo those textures to or if not I can leave them as they are.

If anyone wants it I can do a high and low res set of textures but I thought I'd wait and see if anyone actually wants it before doing anything.

Cand you send us the download link? I personally would use some of the textures from this mod for my own modded HUD (That I use for myself only), so it'll be cool if you sent the current textures that you use. (shown in the pictures that you posted)

Impressive. A bit overly bright in my opinion, but besides that especially convincing in being an actually projected HUD. Might be a direction for Vice to consider in possible future installments.

I like it, nice work! There are a few details that are part of the HUD structure and weren't open for modification. I think I can include those for the next update, here are the filenames and descriptions:

hud1.jpg = target MFD range list left bracket
hud1b.jpg = target MFD range list right bracket
hud3.jpg = status display shield hull damage green bar
hud3b.jpg = target MFD detail hull damage indicator bracket
hud4.jpg = status display primary weapon energy indicator blue bar
hud5.jpg = inbound missile range indicator red bar
hud7.jpg = target MFD detail hull damage indicator red bar
hud8.jpg = red dot used for critical shield array level
hud9.jpg = yellow dot used for critical shield array level
hud10.jpg = green dot used for critical shield array level

The missile indicator is indeed mislabelled. mi2.jpg is the missile box, yellowbox.jpg is used for the radar and nav map indicator. Will be corrected for the next update.

Thanks for the replies, the new texture options should be really useful. About the brightness thing, it is a bit garish but the way textures display meant that if I tone it down or up the transparency the glow effect somehat dulls, but I might be able to make a darker version if it's wanted.

Anyway I thought I'd put up the download for the almost finished version of the HUD for people to check out, comments and criticism would be nice (or just feel free to silently download without saying anything :D )
