Is there any mileage in having additional missions for ferrying equipment and supplies from an orbiting station to the port on the planet below and vice-versa?
I am just thinking that such would tie the stations to their homeworlds and be another sort of mission on offer.

Yes there is, but it's not a contract based option intentionally. This is one of the areas that requires a little more thought, observation, and planning by the player in exchange for a higher reward (pay attention to local market values, planet economic classes, and your local reputation). It is a freeform option available to you as the player choosing what you want to transport on your own terms and it can pay off very nicely. While not typically a great option for certain items, for commodities it can pay well for a nearby planet in the same sector. Transporting to another nearby planet in the solar system or in a different system that has a demand for such items can pay off much better, including other items beyond commodities.

How about adding a planetary mission, since the subject seems to continue to be raised? Not a 'bring object X to city Y', but maybe a 'bring object X to point Y on planet Z' with a simple model to act as 'delivery point'.

Maybe for a future game, this doesn't resonate as a continually requested feature though. It's also already in the game (delivery to cities anyway), just without the contract give-aways and requiring more strategy/planning to complete (and best used for travelling between solar systems).

In any case, even though it isn't continually requested, it is requested recurringly, that's why I thought it could be good to review the possibilities of planetary contracts.
