Hi again. I'm still a little new at this so please forgive the noob questions.
1. When my science officer says that there may be valuable material on a planet nearby does that mean that valuable material that you can buy from the planets city station, or is it somewhere on the planets surface? If the later, how do you find it? I found some containers on the surface once but they were marked with a purple dot on the radar. What I'm refering to gives no indication of exactly where it might be.
2. When mining a planet, are there any certain places on the surface where the mining is better than average? Like a hot spot so to speak, or is it all the same in that respect? Same question about astroid fields.
3. On my recommendation my brother bought the ER.
I gave him a few pointers to get him off to a quick start. One of those pointers was to mine astroids and sell Platnum at Port Rivoch specifically to earn a lot of credits.
The reason I directed him to Rivoch was because in my game Rivoch offers anywhere from 17,000 to 30,000 credits for each unit as opposed to maybe an average of 3,000 per unit anywhere else.
The problem is that when he lands at Port Rivoch it only offers the average of around only 3,000 per unit for Platnum like the other planets. Does this sound right or should it be the same as mine is at around 30,000? Do different game installations vary in this respect?
Also, my brother said that when he lands at Port Rivoch it doesn't say "Welcome to Port Rivoch" like mine does. I know he's at the right place because I gave him the coordinates and everything he describes is exactly the right location, complete with the planet, and the jump gate to Thuban nearby. Does he need an update or something? He just bought the key yesterday but he downloaded the demo about a month or two ago.
Thanks for any help.

Yes... have him download the current version and he will be up todate. v1.758 is the current version I do believe....
There are containers in space and on the surface of planets and the purple dot shows up on radar when you are close to it ....make sure you save at 10,000 or higher when on a planet or save at the docking station on the planet. Having multiple saves is a must just in case of a big ....OOPs.
The valuable material refers to what can be mined on the planet....as far as I know. I haven't found one sweet spot over another and found mining just off to one side of the Docking station to be just fine for mining.
The material prices fluctuate for everyone...when you are at the station with your brother you will find you each have different items to buy and your prices for items to be sold will be different. As your experience goes up you will notice that you will have a higher cash offered for your contracts.
If your interested in making some big money on contracts and get some good combat experience then I would like you to invite you and your brother to come join the co-op Bug-on-Bug war this coming Saturday, 10:00 am west coast time USA. We will meet at the Rivoch starport in Sapphire then use the Jump gate to Thuban....where you will dock at the starport near the jump gate you came through...Save and wait fir the contract to be accepted then jump to the nav point and go to battle against the Hostiles...you'll have a blast. Hope this helps you....
Good Flying~:)

A few questions about gameplay.
1 - It means the planet can be mined for material. Mining a planet is much like mining asteroids, you need to get close, allow your ship to hover above the surface, then mine from a very low altitude.
2 - Planets are fairly linear, just descend, hover, and mine. Slowly moving around may improve results, but not like asteroids. With asteroids, if you manually pan the beam across the surface, you'll usually mine much faster. Likewise, a science specialist crew member can improve mining performance.
3 - Sounds like he is indeed using a much older build of the game. New market classes with unique inventory values wasn't added until later. Likewise, greeting messages were also added later. So just have him download the latest build from the game's website.

A few questions about gameplay.
Thanks alot guys. Your info helps alot.
Thanks for the offer. Sounds like fun but I don't think I'm quite ready for that yet. But it's certainly not out of the question for me to give online a try after I get a little more used to the game. I'd be lost right now.
Just found out, my brother updated to the latest version but his F1, F2, and F3 keys don't work now. His arrow keys, and his greater than/less than keys work fine. It's just the F keys that don't work. Also his mouse isn't working right. When he clicks to bring up the nav map or trade console nothing happens. He can click on jump and that works but he can't bring up his trade console and nav map. So he's basically stuck with no controls except his joystick and movement controls.
So far we've done this:
I had him create a new profile and that didn't work. Then I had him uninstall and reinstall the game and it's still doing the same thing. Then I had him uninstall, then delete the sd3dg folder in program files and reinstall. It's still doing the same thing. Then I had him download a fresh copy of the latest release again and had him go through the whole process again. Still the same thing. Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks again.

A few questions about gameplay.
Nope, that's not one I've heard of before. The keys and/or buttons could have been remapped wrong, but deleting the game folder should have reset all of that. Something external from the game might be interfering. If he wants to complete the steps outlined here, I can look into the configuration to see if there might be any other possible causes: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronrenegades/faq.htm#8
Also have him send me the keymap8.sw file and sw.cfg file from the game's folder.
