I am still on the demo. How do I get the game to recognize my joystick throttle and rudder control?
I have a Sidewinder Forcefeedback 2

Usually, just plug it in and use it. If it wasn't plugged in when you installed and the launched game for the first time, then you'll need to change the control mode in the Options menu to 'Joystick', then click on the option to configure controls, then map each axis channel you want to use to the desired function.

Thanks Vice. I got it set up. Will have to play with settings until I get it just right.

Hey Vice I seem to be having an issue with configing my hat switch. I went out and got 2 joysticks to play with. a x52.(lots of bells and wistles but missing substance) and a logitech Extreme 3d pro. They both have the same problem. I cant set the hat switch for straifing. I am sure that with the x52 I can go in and edit it with the button calls with its software but I just sent it to belize with my father for him to use it to play evochron down there. The logitech has no such software for button mapping. I would seem that this issue needs solved in game. also the ability to set the differnt axis sensitivity independantly would be useful ( I might just have missed this if its already in there)
So far I am loving the game My Dad, and brother and my sisters boyfreind got in a 4 hour dog fight with each other the first night.

Nostromo N52 gamepad and Genius MaxFighter F-16U joystick.
Been using Nostromo gamepads for years, playing FPS games. Maps in real well to all the keyboard and strafing, etc, functions for renegades.
But, um, this is my first time using a joystick since my old Atari 2600 days, lol.

Several of us use X52's and its HAT for various controls, so it does work fine. You have two HAT's with an X52, one that returns classic HAT signals (the lower HAT) and the other that returns buttons signals (the upper HAT). If you want to use the one that returns button signals for strafe control, then you need to bind that 'button HAT' (the upper one) to the button signals in the 'Configure Keyboard and Button Controls' menu instead of the main HAT option. For the lower HAT, click on Options in the game, then click on Joystick HAT until it reads 'Strafe'. You will then control the strafe thrusters with the HAT. Make sure other controls are bound to the strafe thrusters, otherwise you might over-ride the HAT with the other controls.Hey Vice I seem to be having an issue with configing my hat switch. I am using an X box 360 pad and it is just fine. Maybe I will get a stick at some stage, but getting the cash release authorisation from my minister of finance ( WIFE ) may take some negotiation:P
Anyone know where to get the best deals ?

Many of the best deals can be had directly from the manufacturer many of which sell factory seconds that have some blemish and thus can not be sold as new. These quite often can be had at a significantly reduced price. Also you can use cnet.com to search for a particular stick then do a price comparison and see who has the best deal. I hope this helps, oh and just tell the minister of finance that this will be used for black ops and so it should be treated as such. lolOriginally posted by ASBOMAN

Hi Asboman,
I have posted this several times before, but I'll mention it again.
Since the Saitek "X" series controllers are extremely versatile and programmable, I would recommend buying one. They have an online store where they sell "reconditioned products" at about 1/2 price w/full warranties. This includes their full line of controllers, not just the "X" series. Their website is www.saitek.com
They have centers around the world. I would like to suggest Ebay as well and point out that full support for used Saitek controllers is still available. I don't know about the other manufacturers.
Personally, I prefer the Saitek X45, since it has a rocker control for roll/yaw instead of the "twist" method. That model can now only be found on Ebay and should sell for less than $35.00USD. I remind you that Saitek still offers full support for this model.
I hope this helps....

Saitek st290 pro, a good base units with hat, twist and throttle control, I still have to use my keyboard but if you adjust some of your keys you can control the additional functions into the numpad ( I use the numpad for shield and thrusters while giving weapons, cm inertial and strafe to my joystick buttons and HAT)

Until now, I used a mouse and keyboard. But yesterdays first combats taught me, to change to a Stick. it is much easier to manouver in 3D with it.
I will use my logitech force 3D and saitek pro gamer command unit.
I got to program it, but it comes with 3 modes that fits perfect for evocron. Nav, trade and mine, and combat.
regards

I'm looking into buying a saitek joystick but I've read a LOT of horror stories reviews about the durability/reliability of thier products. Anyone have any afvice? I've also heard a lot about some of the logitek joysticks too... I don't want to buy a stick to then turn around and have to buy another in 6 months... seems to much like a gaming tax to me.

Whoo Boy! I get to postulate again!;)
The Saitek "X" series controllers are the most powerful, programmable controller in the world.
I have been using the Saitek for over 5yrs and I treat 'em rough. There have been a couple of occassions where I broke one, but it was my getting carried away that did it.
On the other hand, Saitek support is among the best. I would send the broken controller in for repair, and every time they gave me a NEW ONE!... At no charge!
Although I have not heard of any "horror stories" about the Saitek, I have heard horror stories about the Thrustmaster. It all depends on what side of the fence you sit on.
Vice uses the Saitek X52pro and has been using the Saitek also for 5 yrs. Excellent buys on used "X" controllers can be found on Ebay as well as "Reconditioned" units direct from the factory. Check out www.saitek.com
& check the "reconditioed" box. I have seven Saitek controllers and they all work perfectly.
Hope this helps.
Have fun...
P.S. I do have a Thrustmaster, it doesn't work, and the manufacturer sez it can't be fixed. My particular case may not be indicative of Thrustmaster policy.
