Wolf Zone Exit Adventure

Post by ShoHashi »

The other night, I was able to join Vice, Brave and CS on a trip to the Wolf Zone. I have to admit, it was pretty cool there.

Yesterday, I decided to leave the Wolf Zone and took the nearest wormhole out. What I didn't realize (what can I say other than I'm a newb with this?) was that it was one-way right to an unknown system with one unknown planet! I spent most of Saturday evening jumping north, south and east until I ran out of fuel hoping to stumble across something familiar but it was all unknown. Heck, a lot of the times I was jumping hostiles were following me with each jump, and I was beginning to think I was the Battlestar Galactica with the Cylons following me in unknown space! :)
I then jumped west and ran into Serene and Tranquil space but didn't see any planets, stations or gates. I was pretty bummed out.

Today, I managed to tell Bravehart of my predicament and he suggested I head down to the unknown planet and upgrade my fuel tank and head towards some coordinates he specified. After fighting off swarms of hostiles on the way down to the planet, I finally managed to land and upgrade the fuel tank. I then jumped off to the coordinates. Tons of jumps later, I managed to jump into the Pices system. I'm almost home, just need to jump to Thubian and on to Sapphire.

Whew! What an adventure!

:D Glad to see you survived..Sho :) That is one of the few surprises instore for all the pilots. The Wolf Zone is pretty cool and I am sure everyone will be happy with the new system.

Good job making it back! That particular wormhole route can be quite a surprise, the benefits are worth the risk and challenge though. Finding your way back can be tricky, one tip for future explorers to that area, watch/observe the quadrant map carefully.

I went through that wormhole the other day too, man, I was "Lost in Space", lol. The problem was that I did a save right as I was going through the wormhole, so I couldn't just kill myself (F7) and avoid going through it. Finally I gave up and luckily had a backup of my pilot0.sw file from earlier that day, so I just put that in and I was back to where I was earlier, and out of the "lost" area.

Learned my lesson. Ever after that, I copy my pilot0.sw file and save it in a backup folder before I go into the game. So, if I ever find myself stuck again, I can easily get back to where I was.

You can also now save in different profile slots during the game. To do that, click on 'Select Profile and Save' in the exit menu rather than 'Quick Save Progress'. You can then click on the slot you want to save your profile to (all future quick saves will be applied to the slot you select until you exit the game). But it's also a good idea to back up your profiles periodically, flash drives are handy for that or you can even use a floppy.

Thanks, Vice! When I get a bit more upgraded, I'll have to revisit to see these "benefits" that you speak of! :)
