Need help again with custom cockpit.

Post by Tempered »

I'm having a problem with the mfd's shifting on me during turns. I just can't seem to get them in the right position in my 3d model.

I tried to use the template that comes with the mod kit, but I'm unable to read newer direct x formats, so it doesn't import into my modeling program. I'm using Blender and it can import quite a few formats, so if anyone could make available a template in a format other than direct x, I would greatly appreciate it. The community will also benefit from more variety in cockpits :)

Unfortunately, switching formats also often changes the scaling, position, and/or orientation of a model. Is there a plug-in you could use for Blender that would support the DirectX model format?

Blender has a DX8 import/exporter that seems to work great except for on the cockpit sample that came with the mod kit. I'm starting to think that maybe I have a corrupted file.

Just downloaded a converter program that does over 500 3d formats and it couldn't read it either, but was able to read the blender .x formats. So it's probably a corrupted file.

Just tested it and it loads fine, even in an old version of LithUnwrap. You can actually open the file up in notepad to see it's just an ordinary text file in X format.

Looks like it's blender's importer. Seem's it's just too out dated. The game seems to read the older file format well enough, though. I'll see if I can't read the data in manually to get the positions. File format seems pretty straight forward.

Thanks for the speedy replies Vice.

Ok, it's pretty small, so it might be easy to do that. If you want me to try saving it in a different format, let me know. I just suspect the scaling, position, and/or orientation might get messed up in the conversion process.

Okay, tried the manual input thing and ended up with a plane that is vaguely house shaped :)

something like..

----------
/-----------\\
|______|

Is this all the file should contain?

Only 8 vertices and faces are listed in the x file, unless there is more in the hex codes for the transforms. No clue how to input that manually.

[Edited on 4-1-2008 by Tempered] Grrrr, my ansi art was demolished :(

Yes, that's right, use it as a back plate for installing gauges and displays on to.

Well that wasn't nearly as hard as I was trying to make it out to be. Thanks again Vice.
