Is there any benefit to enabling SLI for Renegades?
I'm wondering if the game doesn't require/benefit from SLI, could there be a performance/graphic glitches due to running Renegades with SLI enabled.
Would changing any in game options allow SLI to make a difference?
It would be good if Vice would be able to lets us know... the reason I ask is, I'm nearly sure the game runs better on my PC when I create a profile in the nVidia control panel telling my system to use only a single card when I launch Renegades, or is that just me???
I don't have an SLI configuration to test myself, but from what has been reported to me, there can be performance benefits. There have been driver problems with Nvidia and SLI, which have caused issues in several games, but most of those have apparently been resolved, so I wouldn't suspect problems at this point. One thing it should hopefully improve would be rendering of more complex scenes, such as planet atmospheres/terrain, asteroid fields, and areas of space with several stations/outposts. With a system as powerful as yours, you may also want to change the screen mode to one of the 'Max VSync' modes, which will let it run faster. You may notice a more substantial difference with SLI using that mode.
I'm off to do some testing! I've been playing NFS ProStreet on my PS3 while keep refreshing the main forum page.
I knew with the time difference between us here in the UK and yourself in the US, I figured if I just waited around in the forums, if you were around to reply, I'd be lucky enough to get your reply sometime today... and it worked
From just that quick test I think I'll be on Renegades for the rest of the night!
The difference is very noticeable after I removed the profile limiting Renegades to single GPU, and on your instructions, I set the screen mode to 'FS (Locked) Max VSync' as opposed to the 'Optimised WM' that it was originally set to.
Just to point out, I've also changed the resolution from the default 'Optimised' to the actual resolution of my monitor - 1280 x 1024.
It's looking good! Off to custom up a new and improved X52 profile, saving my NFS ProStreet progress and as far as the rest of tonight's concerned, I'm 'Wraithing it!!!'
