i discovered a massive asteroid in Sapphire... what is this for? I try to get close to mine and it won't let me. If flew around it and couldn't find an entrance. Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, you're missing the entrance. There's an entrance to the cave

found it... was worth so worth it

finally i can put that Map Log to use with Set Loc. one thing i've found fun so far (been going back and forth between the station and the asteroid caves) is to use the fulcron drive to get to the entrance, then as i'm going into the entrace i shut off IDS and switch on the afterburners. I at around 2500 speed i'll stop and use intertial controls to guide my way in quickly. was a challenge at first but i think i have it down

Its a very small entrance. I was expecting a massive hole that screamed "THIS IS A CAVE!" when I looked for it, only to find it when I gave up. I probably passed by it 10 times before finding it, so dont worry.

Without giving big hints, all I will say is that you'll know its near if you have your eyes open.

Another small hint, it's NOT on the very dark side of the asteroid.

Max if your docked in the station closest to the Asteriod then look out towards it so the riod is slightly ofset on the righthand side as you look at it, jump to the very edge of the riod and you will see it

Found the large asteroid in Saphire and made some money.
Found a hidden planet and bombed up with some good gear - banshee, fusion, excal - mantis etc.
Being impressed with the large asteroid method of making money I've since concentrated my efforts soley to travelling to all the systems in the game in an effort to find another one.

I go from system to system ignoring other activities such as mining, contracts, or trading with other ships just looking for another large asteroid. Combat in the more hostile systems is no problem and when I get attacked the BVR tactics I employ defeats most ships and even Leviathans don't last long. More often than not these ships drop their cargo which I salvage and sell to pay for fuel and wages.

My question is, although I have covered most of the systems in the game, I've been unsuccessful in finding another large asteroid. And although I've had fun, I now need to know if I'm wasting my time on this line of enquiry and there are no others in the game - in which case I need to change tact - or should I keep looking?

I think the one in Saphire is the only one (after searching through the universedata file, it was the only one to show up). I think Vice told me in MP once that he was going to add another, but never did.

Keep looking, there is another (make sure you're using a recent build of the game). However, it may not seem obvious at first, so look carefully on the map

What it has inside is very valuable.

Ok - sorry for the delayed reply. Many thanx for the clue, much appreciated - found the asteroid - but nothing at all inside it but silence. Then I looked at your other reply where you said what's inside is very valuable. So I guess if silence is golden then it's very valuable - Damm your hide sir, I was looking forward to some nice goodies - lol

Keep hunting, it's in there. Not sure how to say this without giving too much information away, but make sure to be 'observant'. And consider that the cave network has several pathways.

OK - I was wrong then - it does exist - confirmed by azpatriot - so I took your advice and persevered. After a very long and sometimes frustrating time - all those dead ends - I finally found it and marked it. So thank you for holding my hand on this one. Just as an aside - the goodies don't really change anything for me as my primary goal at the moment is still making money QUICKLY so they don't really help in that respect - but nice to know they're there if needed. Once again many thanx.

You do realize you can store what you find there for profit that is, well, lets say quite high compared to other things you can do in the game

They don't serve only one purpose, but consider using them for something they weren't originally designed for... especially if your primariy goal is to make big money in the game.

Just a question by why to weapons and systems occupy a complete cargo slot? Like one of any missile to a single cargo bay? Are they that big?

Yup, one missile can be 7-8 feet long. In contrast, a standard commodity unit is about 4 inches cubed.

Don't worry - i found it eventually - the entrance.. then almost got lost inside the asteroid.. lol

didn't find any goodies.. stumbled around till i found the exit ( i really suck at mazes/puzzles) .. getting ready to exit (empty handed) and my game crashed - BSOD - and machine rebooted.. luckily i had saved just before i entered.

Don't know if i'll try and go back in again - I really hate mazes.. lol
