Ships and their uses

Post by jureidinim »

Another question i have for this game - It seems (and I may be wrong - only basing this on forum posts) that everyone wants/flies the leviathan class ship. I understand it's the best class in game - but does it mean that the others are no longer useful?

I was hoping that with the upgrades that can be bought per ship, that you can use other (maybe not all) classes of ships effectively for different functions - it just seems that once players get the leviathan then no other class matters.

Is that how it is?

Not really, there was just a lot of emphasis on PvP multiplayer combat in which the Leviathan can be a very beneficial frame to use for that. But it's slower, less maneuverable, and more suited to heavy attack combat or cargo transporting than other frames. The Phoenix is still a frame I prefer for general gameplay as its speed and maneuverability are particularly useful in a variety of situations. For racing and roles requiring rapid sub-light travel, even lighter frames can have better advantages. For spying contracts, sometimes a very fast ship, like a Saber or Raven frame, can let you fly circles around the capital ship while scanning takes place, easily avoiding incoming fire and missiles, where a heavier ships might be more vulnerable. Another factor to consider is your skill, which can fine tune which frame might be best for you in the role(s) you want to play.

I do use a leviathan much of the time but at times I still roll back to fly a Raven or a Pheonix. I would fly a Raven most all the time if it had 8 harpoints I love the speed of it and the way it handles.

Nice to know.. but it seems i misunderstood - you can own multiple ships? I thought if you bought a new one, you lost the old..

In way, you can virtually 'park' any ship you want at any station that supports the frame as there is a 0% loss exchange system in the game, so just configure and go. But otherwise no, objects that you can't directly control and take with you are generally not part of this game as its focus is on 'immediate' lone wolf mercenary pursuits.

I always fly Centurion or Renegade.
