New pilot checking in ...

Post by Straker Nova »

Good morning all,

After 3 years of playing Eve Online and being on the losing side of the war last year with BoB, I figured it was time to look for something new ... besides my buddies and my two sons decided they would rather play WoW, which is fun but a totally different direction that I wanted to go. So my search began for an Eve replacement (although it was a sad day when I had to terminate my Straker Nova character after selling off all my assets, including my beloved Megathron Elysian Skyes and all my Tech II gear, but thats another story ...)
Anyhoo, the search began ... I cna't tell you how many demos I downloaded, among them X2, X3, Darkstar One (which I bought and enjoyed but something was lacking), and a slew of others I can't remember ... I was about to just give up when 4 weeks ago I found the Starwraith webpage, and started poking around. I downloaded the ER demo and was impressed, and tried to get my youngest son involved to no avail (WoW raised its ugly head once again) and my oldest son is too busy planning a wedding ... the boy has no priorities .... so after playing around with the demo I finally decided to go ahead and buy it three weeks ago. I'm happy to report that my wife is now speaking to me as of yesterday, although I'm not quite sure what her little grunts and harumphs mean, but after 21 years of marriage I just nod my head, smile and say "Yes Dear".
How's my progress you say? Newbish, to be sure. I printed out the keyboard map, bit the bullet and bought a Saitek ST290 joystick and haven't looked back ... unless a big red blip is in my HUD that is. Where was I? I'm multi-tasking, supposed to be remodelling the master bathroom ... she just grunted at me again ... oh yeah! I know, my progress .... in Eve I used to have an Exhumer and did a ton of mining out in 0.0 space, and lo and behold I've fallen in love with mining again in ER. My science officer is quite helpful for the most part, but I've noticed he/she/it grunts and/or harumphs occasionally ... I'm sensing a pattern emerging. Lord help me if I have to remodel the bathroom in my little scout.
So in a nutshell, I'm saying hello, trying to get onto Comaslair, remodelling, getting grunted at, mining in Sapphire and later in Glacia, and loving life in general!
May the Great Thunder-Chicken rain blessings upon Vice, who has effectively nullified any Real Life aspirations my poor, beautiful, beloved wife may have had for me this week :)

That was the most confusing post ever, besides the one in which someone told me to write "See other side" on two sides of a paper.

Welcome and well written!

Thank you, good to be here, I promise Rami I'll try to stay focused. In reading the forum it looks like you're the guy to go to for any mining questions, so stand by :)

Vice, seriously, thanks for using those hellacious programming talents of yours to bring us this game. Pretty frickin' awesome!

Yup, I'm the miner around here :). It's not a path to riches, but it is for a long, pleasant game :).

Mining is in fact a great way to start building your economy. Unless you're very confident in your combat ability, mining is, in my opinion, the best way to start acquiring funds.

Yeah, I like mining, especially when I gotta do honey-do's and have to AFK ... my combat skill's aren't quite where they should be, I mean I have all the basic's down fair enough but will do some more flying, mining and contracts for a couple more weeks before I venture beyond Glacia.

I tried a couple times getting onto Comaslair but unable to, I'll need to check out the TCP/UDP config as well as setting my firewall to a trusted state (which I just did about 3 seconds ago) maybe later tonight when CINC-HOUSE is winding down and not chasing me around the living room ... oh wait, thats me chasing her ....

Heya, welcome.

Can understand Rami's confusion, for a minute there I thought you were remodeling the bathroom inside your ship. Which offcourse is quite useless, everybody knows we use laser showers that simply burns the body entirely clean. Not much to remodel there (unless you don't like the metal tiles...).
Anyway, hope you are / will be able to join Comaslair, maybe I'll see you around there some time.

By the way, if you ever want advise about combining you mining with doing the dishes, I'm the person to talk to ;)

Hey. from now on we should call doing AFK-activities during mining: combmining.

Hi, i figured i won't open another thread to introduce myself so i'm typing in this one.
I am still playing eve online and i am playing it for 2 years and a couple of months. i must say that i am on the other side of the great war from the op of this post tho :D

now, i found this game by accident browsing for something else. since i don't have much time to play a lot of games lately and eve takes away a lot of time (the people who play it know it) i'm gonna need some time to actually try this game out and then post how i feel about it. I played space games since the first CGA elite :D, altought i was very young at that time i played it a lot and accompished a lot as well, i also played a lot of other space open ended games and i generally like that genre the most.
I find this game promising after like 2 hrs of playing it but as i said i will let you guys know about it when i get the hang of it some more.
How's multiplayer working in this game ? Since i read the game is the same for multyplayer and single player i can't really understand how you can die in a expensive ship to other players and then just load your last save game and continue, is it how it works ?

regards,
Darth

Hello and welcome,

Correct, single player and multiplayer are unified for each pilot profile, so you keep just about everything you earn in both modes, including your save points. You can save just about anywhere in the game at any time and that becomes your 'respawn' point in multiplayer if you die. Very much like other space-sims, except the saving system doesn't require docking.

nice, i would call it "carnage" pvp then :D
since all i love and do in eve is pvp i think i will like this one as well cos i won't have to spend a lot of time to make money for ships and equipment.

regards,
darth

p.s. i am currently somewhere in open space jumping in one direction for like half an hour now lol, if i don't find a star (as i have that thing that makes fuel althought i have never done it so far) soon i'm gonna waste all my fuel ahahaha, since i like challenge i will try to get out of this situation otherwise i'll have to load the saved game :P

Yup, that's the 'lost in space, please help' scenario and those who accidently (or intentionally) save while drifting in deep space sometimes need someone to rescue them in multiplayer by bringing them some fuel. But there is a chance you'll run into an uncharted solar system soon, maybe even with a planet or two with some cities or a station where you can refuel.

that's why i started this journey, i figured i might get onto something interesting. i had hopes that i can buy thing at capital ships that pop around but it seems they ain't selling anything. i just saved tho cos i bumped onto a capital ship after a jump (as i am flying by intertion after jumping so i save the fuel) and almost died. i copied my profile to a backup location saved before i started this trip so it's not a big deal if i run out of fuel. i can't get back as i wasted more then a half so far so if i don't manage to find anything i'll just re-load the backuped save and start in another direction lol

Technically, you could turn around and just coast back to known space without using the jump drive, but that takes a long time :)

errr, hahaha, i think i just found a bug, or what is it ?
i picked up a purple object on my radar and i flew in it's direction then flyed past it so i turned around and kept closing in at lower speed, there was no graphics whatsoever and my ship just exploded like it hitted something. tried it 3 times now since i saved very close to it.

regards,
darth

edit : i'm now right in front of it, tried shooting it - nothing, mining/beaming it - nothing. there's nothing but open space in front of me and yet when i accelerate a bit i bump of it.

it seems like it's in the center of a sector as my coordinates are close to 0,0,0. the exact location is :

X -8 SX -1450
Y 6 SY 0
Z 92 SZ -585

edit : i suck , it's Z 32

edit no2 : ok, i just found another one, it's in the center of the sector as well, this one is at SX-1455 YS 0 SZ -589

edit no3 : eh, it appeared on most of the sectors around however i loaded the other save i mentioned which was in "known" space just to check if that thing was in the middle of the sectors around, it didn't so now i loaded the last save which had a glitch and it dissapeared. must be some kind of a bug which occured to me for no reason. well, i'll let you know if i come up with it again, off to explore some more :D

Only purple item I know that destroys you on colission would be a solar panel. Maybe a remnant of a cleaning mission?

heheh, i found one uncharted system after a lot of jumping around. i managed to land on the planet altought i was being chased by zillion of hostiles (planetary combat is awesome, i got chased by a lot of missiles at one point and i just waited for them to come near me and i turned off my engines, they missed ofc altought you have to be careful not to die cos of the gravity field) and i wanted to raise standings so i tried a few kill missions, now i figured i could kill my mission objective which happened in the first mission however, on the second mission i got swarmed by non-mission related hostile ships so i just had to run around with isd off to evade missiles. Seems like i will have to make a lot more money and buy a better ship + equipment before i start my trip to that planet again. I bookmarked it and went back to charted space for now :D.

(i do know i could actually raise the standings by accepting missions and eventually finishing them off but it would prolly take a lot more time then simply trade/mine/run missions in secure space until i get a better ship).

Hi all Wraithers!

I'd like to introduce myself into the fold...

I've always been into the 'Space Sim' since back in the days of 'Elite' and 'Frontier'

I've tried and played most of the current and 'Major' titles out there and have and still am, enjoying them, be it either a 'Free-Mode' or 'Story' based game, I'll play either but I do prefer the free mode, almost RPG like variants.

Anyway, I have been waiting too long for the 1.2 patch for Space Force, and I remembered about SW3DG (I've had Evochron Alliance for ages, the pre 2.0 one, and believe it or not, never got around to fully playing it!!!)

So when I saw that the universe had expanded into Renegades, I made the decision to purchase and actually play it fully this time, develop a character and I must say I've not been disappointed! Now this is what we're talking about.

Renegades, with its updated engine and free form play is just what I've been waiting for! Nice one Vice!

I also have to give Vice high five on this one. I played all the titles, hung around all the forums, and use to hear the same old gripes about planetary landing, no multiplayer, the story and the cut scenes are lame, etc., and I can say with all the titles lining my shelf, this game is a space sim fan's dream. I mean what's not to like about it. Space Force was my last game, and I was also highly disappointed. I thought bigger was better, boy was I wrong. I'm not even going to figure out how Vice was able to create this game, "pure genious". The rest of the big budget companies out there, can a learn a thing or two from Vice. I truly mean that. I've learned big budget doesn't necessarily make a great game.
It comes from being a fan from the heart. As a fan, you know what other fan's want, and you don't compromise.

Vice has definitely raised the bar for all other companies to follow, "If they can".

that knight rider, is known as the difference between doing your job because you want that paycheck, versus loving what you do. money is really a secondary matter when there is true creativity and passion for the project.

and the damned hard part is picking out the one good game from the truckfull of horsesh... oh pardon me, i mean shoddy games...
