Some Q\'s & Requests by a new player

Post by rv73 »

Hi all,
First up, thanks for an awesome game. I am a big fan of this genre and having bought the game last week I can say it is very well done.
A great game at a great price is hard to do in todays game industry ! Congrats.

I just have some questions, and possible requests please. Please excuse if these have been covered or being worked on.
I have tried to cover the forums and have read the instructions.

==================

- Is there a fast reverse thruster ? Not the setting, but something I can slam to stop me fairly quickly. Essentially the opposite of the fast >4K forward thruster.

- I have the starting ship. I am unsure of the effect of a C5 engine compared to the starting C1. I have bough the C5... I don't seem to go faster. My forward thruster/boost seems the same. Speeding up/down seems the same.... Can someone enlighten me ?

- Allow the mining beam to work a little further away ?
It feels awful close at the moment, and without a reverse thruster/booster, quite dangerous :)

- Is there an on screen indicator/icon that always shows the direction to your current waypoint ?
The little hud 3D map/scanner is just too busy most of the time to quickly see the direction of your current waypoint.

- Allow the entry speed into planets to be a little faster before burning up. I believe this would help the pacing of the early game, for me anyway.

- Have a list somewhere of your fleet. I'd like to know who I have , and how many ships. What ships are currently with you, etc
Maybe have commands you can set with them ? ie. “Always attack on sight, “Never attack unless instructed, "Stay close to me and just attack my attacker" ,etc

- (small issue) The printable keyboard map uses a grey font colour in parts. Doesn’t print out so well !

That's it. Thanks for your help/info in advance.
Please excuse any newbish questions !

Kind Regards,
Richard

Yes. Press TAB and / at the same time. / will reverse thrusters, TAB will engage the afterburner. Combined, they're reverse afterburner.

Did you really buy it? The C5 engine is far stronger than the C1, but, if you added additional stuff to your ship it could be you made your ship heavier and thus need to have a stronger engine to keep the same speed.

No. The range is set.

Yeah, on the 3D radar. It's the same icon as it is on the screen.

Or boost energy to your shields using [ and ] and speeding up slightly above 800. That should keep you pretty alive.

Now, those commands are implemented. One is attack on sight (I think F6) and the other Form Up (F5).

Hey, yeah, madmax is right. There is no such thing as an engine C1-C5 in Renegades. There's engines in the Shipyard, and Jumpdrives (Fulcrum Drives) in the shop. The Jump Drives decide how many sectors one can jump

Rami covered them well. Just a few things I'll add:

With regard to fleet lists, there are a couple design aspects about the fleet system that are intentional, including this one. I may expand on why in the strategy guide at some point, but consider it a very small clue as to how to use or not use fleets. ;)

Who me? :) Seems to print ok here, it's a pretty dark gray. Is your printer almost out of ink? Did you print it on draft mode or full quality? What kind of printer? I can always adjust the contrast so it's darker (or anyone can really), but then the lighter lines will be less distinguishable from the category headings.

If your need for a fast reverse-thruster stems from crashing into solar arrays or capital ships (when doing a contract) remember to adjust the navigation point a little bit before you jump.

I splatted myself quite a few times before I got the hang of this. I also understand hiring a navigator helps a lot, but I'm too scared to try it even though I've got one. :)

I've never had problems with the mining beam. You just have to edge forward slowly until you see the flames and then set your velocity to zero. (remember Alt-B makes it stay on without having to hold the key down). Also keep in mind it takes a little bit for your ship to decelerate to a stop. Once you get a feel for how close you need to be you can usually strafe around the asteroid while you're mining without too much trouble. Anyways, hitting it at very low speed doesn't do much damage anyways.

On the indicator, remember the brighter (bigger) dots are the ones behind you.
