Suggesting an immersion improving idea

Post by BonBon »

Hello,

Im playing in VR with Evochron Legacy SE, and Im a miner. :)
I realized, when Im mining, and sitting there, that if there is a radio station that would be great.
I think somekind of news radio, where they report events and accidents, which happening around the space:
Ship accidents, meteor rain here and there, fights, maybe some economy info that the diamond price increasing here and there, etc.

It improve the immersion, because from the news, you know that life going on, and thins happens.
Just and idea, maybe somebody else already suggested it.

The game does allow for audio. Offhand, somebody might be able to mod the game so that radio news can be increased from the current warning system (where the player is warned about systems currently under attack). But, being a mod, it would need to be listed as such and loaded by the player. Were you thinking of a news station or a music station (music might not be possible due to the size of most music files) ?

I thinking for only a news station to listen what is going on in the world, while I mining or my autopilot take me on a long road :)
"listed as such and loaded by the player" - do you mean install it, like a mod? I think that is not a problem, I use some mods already.

I believe Rebel Galaxy Outlaw had such a thing, technically you could make your own that ran in the background using an ai generated voice that spidered econ and event info in the game but you probably won't get fallout ThreeDog quality.

The scripting tool (programming commands) for the game is rather complex but, as long as you're not planning to write an entire story, it might be possible to trigger a short audio blurb whenever you load (via mining) material from an asteroid. The audio would need to be pre-recorded and I'm not sure if the trigger can be set to launch the audio at any location (instead of in a specific sector) where you'd be mining. To lengthen the time of the newscast, I think you could set triggers for various amounts of material. For example, one message would be triggered when you load one unit ... the next message would play after you've loaded 20 units, etc.

My problem is that my son decided Windows 7 wasn't secure enough so he downloaded everything to an external drive, reformatted my computer and installed a different version of Windows. Ergo, I'm still trying to find all my stuff and that includes my copy of the scripting commands for Evochron.

P.S. This is not a "dog ate my homework" excuse. It's worse. I could usually do homework in a couple hours. The stuff I can't find on the external HD goes back a decade. Maybe longer.

" so he downloaded everything to an external drive" :D

In the end of the 90s, my little syster told me, that she saved a game into a CD. I was proud, but then, I checked the CD. It was only the icon of the game, not the whole game. :D
I hope, your stuff is there, and not only the icons saved :D

Speaking of icons, I used to spend a lot of time creating my own icons after I discovered the option for creating them was available with GIMP. I'd Google JPEGs or PNGs and convert them. Alas, they are among the missing files hidden somewhere inside that external drive. (Btw, your sister isn't the only one who got fooled by the "save" option when trying to copy a game CD.)

Ps I miss windows 7 id still be using it but forced obsolescence has made most stuff on it unusable including evochron - due to drivers and others dependencies

Yeah, but it's still capable of exporting a Word document into a PDF for free. It will also run the old Windows XP Sound Recorder (which is a lot better than the current version).
