Question: Station Building Autosave

Post by Blackbirdx61 »

I'm building my first station, which is kinda frustrating, but I appreciate there's a learning curve to these things.
but is there a setting I am missing to nerf the Autosave when ever a module is spawned.

It's way to easy to accidently spawn a module, and not at all easy IMHO to get things to truly line up; but it would definitely be more user friendly if a player could just roll back to a few min ago if a module spawns in a bad place, accidently or just misaligned placement. Anyhow thanks for your time and trouble just could not find anything about this on the board.

Any time I plan to do something which might go wrong (for one reason or another), I save first by cloning my profile. It's an option which is always available in Vice's games. Then, if I make a mistake or otherwise end up with a situation I don't like, I simply either reload from my last save or load my clone (whichever puts me back to where I was before messing up). As far as lining up modules when building, it takes practice. Try cloning your profile and using the clone ... doppelgängers are free in the Evochron universe.

The auto-save is a requirement to update a number of parameters required to preserve the new gamestate affected by the module build (territory, local tech/econ, markets, build state, etc) needed to retain such changes and data when moving from sector to sector. When auto-saving didn't apply early on, certain player actions could cause a loss of data in one or more categories. Auto-saving was a way to ensure preservation to prevent such 'bugs' from being possible.

That said, you can copy your profile as Marvin describes (save to any other slot), then revert if needed if you make a mistake. The game puts save points in the player's control, so they can apply respawn and restore points where they want. Also, you can scuttle the module during the build process and only be out the metal ore (some have indicated they view this as a minor cost for build mistakes). Using the overhead view in the build console with the right-click panning option (especially after locking a build point) will help provide more precise build points since you can pan around 360 degrees and also look above and below the build point to make sure you are placing it where you want it. Here is a video describing this option:

I built several misaligned modules which I later had to destroy by fighting my own station, then I realized there was a short scuttle timer after watching Vices video. I feel like the there could be room for improvement in the station building mechanics but it would be unfair for me to offer criticism when I'm still pretty green to the station building aspects of the game and it may become more intuitive with practice.

Hummm ... I was thinking that the scuttle time lasted as long as being in the "Build" mode and until you opted to add another module.

I think it has a 5 second timer if I recall - I've spent more time 3d modeling for the game than playing lately so I could be wrong

It lasts for the entire duration of the build process at about 25 seconds. A countdown timer is available on the scuttle button for an indicator. Even if missed though, the save can be reverted to however a player wants to set up their restore point.
