Speed-lines modding queston:

Post by OreoGamingGeek »

Hey everybody, got two modding questions for you all that I hope are fairly simple to answer.

See this video:

Whatever mods this player has, has given him a cockpit view with speed-lines, star-streaks, space-dust, or whatever you want to call it, that for me, *greatly* increases the sensation of speed and helps with directional positioning. I've poked through just about every Custom Kit file that I can think of that would make sense, the "Cyan.jpg" for the velocity vector and the landing indicators for stations and cities. How has he added that?

But it's not just the space dust. At about 50sec in the video, he docks with a space station. The landing velocity vectors aren't just edited, they travel much faster, their scaling is way different than in the default game. How is that done?

All I want to be done is pointed in the direction of the fines I need to be editing. I'm not afraid to tinker, I just don't seem to be making any headway on my own.

Thanks in advance! ;D

It's not clear from your post if you're referring to Mercenary or Legacy, the former being in the video you refer to. The two games use/have different customizing options, graphics formats/structures, and a variety of scaling/placement/alignment differences. So if you're referring to the game in that video (EM) with the options available there, this customizing kit provides the details on such modification options: https://www.starwraith.com/evochronmerc ... tomkit.zip

Since EM uses the random 'motion spear' approach rather than the structured ladder/tunnel of the later game, you'd want to focus on the hud\cyan.png image option to change its color/texture. The 'landgreen.png', 'landred.png', and 'landshadow.png' images in the \hud folder for the landing indicators using that game's scaling and placement system. Sample files are included in the kit at the link above for reference.

Thank you so much! I'm sorry, I should have clarified. I was speaking about Legacy, not Mercenary, as I only own Legacy. :-[ Is this impossible to do on Legacy?

You can also modify textures in Legacy and even change the structure/size of the pathway tunnel/ladder, but the random spear elements and much smaller ILS ladders are specific to Mercenary (those were changed for the newer game based on feedback/design goals/3D placement requirements, etc). Details on Legacy customizing options are available here: https://www.starwraith.com/evochronlega ... readme.htm
