Check the quests ... especially one of the second two (depending on your preferred faction). It will take you to some otherwise secret locations.

I found a battleship wreckage nearby the black hole of Sapphire. But it didn't have any loot, just some message.

The following is simply some of my thoughts and opinions about how far Legacy has evolved from Mercenary and Mercenary II and why having the equivalent ' Mercenary Hints&Tips Guide' might not be such a great idea in Legacy.

I think that Legacy has simplified (and improved) the 'clan' part of the game, in that there are now only three 'factions' (Federation - Alliance - Independent) and you need to be part of one of them. IND caters for the explorer-rooted player who doesn't want everything to be combat based and just wants to fly solo. Historically this loss of the Clans is a result of the half millennium of civil war since Mercenary leading to a great deal and depth of background history that (I think) has changed the emphasis of the game. Much of the history has been lost. Unpicking the several centuries of FED vs ALC civil war is therefore also a part of the game.

Finding things (places/information/equipment) and creating equipment (requiring materials and plans/recipes) has a greater emphasis. The goal feels like the finding is more important than the exploiting, though the rewards of finding can be great. :D Construction of cities and stations has also been greatly expanded. No longer can you hit a button and a minute later have created a complete, self sufficient space station. You can now create customised stations and cities, choosing the right mix of attack/defence/energy production/trade potential units that suits your vision for the system you are in for both space and planet bound constructions. There are still three species to play with ... well actually two to kill and in terms of the third it depends on whether the are part of 'you' or 'them'! ;)

As Marvin has suggested, the new (expanded) version of quests are a great source of guidance to help you gain experience and discover important information and things. Quests now have a much more sophisticated route through them with multiple outcomes possible and more sophisticated actions and goals possible. Creating quests in the new system is less linear (=more fun/potential) and hence an attractive game goal in it's own right - for some people at least.

Legends was great, Mercenary I and II were definite leaps in potential in terms of breadth, depth and gameplay opportunities. Legacy is an even bigger step improvement both broadening and deepening the depth of the Evoverse experience in a new way whilst keeping the 'feel'.

And you can still go and kick Vonari butt or chill after a taxing week at work with some gorgeous sightseeing. Or just pootle around exploring. Or create a megapolis in space or a megacity on a planet.

To repeat ... just my thoughts :)

You can also solve a mystery as a detective ... as soon as I get the new quest over to SeeJay. :P

Three species?
Interesting...are the weird bubbly unknown aliens still there? Maybe I should pay them a visit with the jumpcaster.

I'm pretty sure that's the species Dave referred to.
