Old EM player here trying out EL and I've built a few stations in single player and have some questions:
1. I built a station next to Oasis and items where actually cheaper at the next door station I didn't own a license to, do we no longer get discounts on goods at stations we build?
2. I got charged a docking fee at my own station, why is that happening?
3. So, besides raising a sector's tech level and vanity, what's the benefit of building mt own stations?
Thank you!

Re: EL Building Stations
Hello and welcome.
That said, station licenses have been given a different priority in the new game (partly to retain consistent commodity/trade/item values as per feedback) to shift cost reduction to another new gameplay mechanism. A license reduces transaction fees by 50%, which can be a significant savings over time considering the importance/value of storage and how such repeated costs apply.
For other differences/changes, additions, and improvements since EM, you might be interested in the development page here: https://www.starwraith.com/evochronlega ... opment.htm It covers many of the how's, what's, and why's of the new game's development and directions it took as a result of feedback from EM and personal goals I had for the game. The changelogs since that time will cover what else is new/different since then.
You do get a discount for commodities (5%), but it can also be effected by economy class (letter after the planet name) and other either local or regional market conditions. The discount also applies for city inventory on a planet in the same sector, so that is an important consideration to include when analyzing value differences between a local planet and station overall as well.1. It can happen if you build an independent station as an independent pilot, then later on switch factions and try to dock again. Or vice versa if you build a faction affiliated station, then later try to dock as an independent. It comes down to whatever the station affiliation is relative to your own at the time you dock.2. I got charged a docking fee at my own station, why is that happening?
Stations are a beneficial option for numerous gameplay options including trading, storing resources, bringing in reinforcements, designing ships, crafting equipment, crafting weapons, acquiring contracts, hiring crew, refueling, and repairing. By building them yourself, you get to choose when and where to set up installations to facilitate those options. Depending on what kind of gameplay you are interested in, that can be important for deep space exploration in uncharted regions, conquering enemy territory, setting up profitable trade routes for specific items/materials, and establishing safety/resource and resupply zones for any of those objectives.3. Re: EL Building Stations
Thank you Vice.
This was in single player, building in Pearl as an ALC pilot but being SP I didn't have {ALC] in my name.
So .. how do we make credits as traders now, commodities trading? I love the new economy and market info on the map.

In SP, your name won't be displayed on a player list with the faction, but it is held and managed internally the same way and is viewable in the news/information console (Inventory Console > News/Information Button > 'Affiliation' displayed in the middle). If your displayed faction in that console matches the faction of the built station (visible in parenthesis after its name when you hold the mouse pointer over its icon on the nav map), then there may be something else going on and I can take a look if you send me your save game attached to an e-mail (starwraith.com > contact).
The basic profit concept applies for trading, buy low and sell high plus finding opportunities to grab bargain's/deals where you can as you travel. The remote market tracking system will give you an idea on where certain items are above standard market and which are below in general, which you can then use to help formulate trade routes to acquire and sell for good results (also taking into account your travel costs). As you travel about, it can also help to note where certain industry types are for more localized price benefits within the larger regions (smaller zones in a sector around a planet where specific items are in high supply for a low price or high demand for a high price).
