[Spoilers?] Need help with a mini quest

Post by Foxwing Delta »

I didn't want to ask for help on this but having looked for about an hour I'm at a loss. I found a hidden beacon in atlas, that eventualy led me to a planet known as s281. The only hint I have is "some hunting can reveal a strange anomaly that's worth some exploration" Where is this? I don't want it spoiled but I'd like to be led in the right derection, I've explored this sector and the nearby planets but nothing, sensor stations reveal nothing.. I'm at a loss.

What I know about this (surely not complete) is:

Planets or moons with such a denomination are in uncharted systems. Try to maximize the size of the system you are in to see if other objects will spot on the NAV map, if not, you will have to explore or get other hints from NPCs. Have you checked the data section of the logs?

This one is best done with buddies. Somebody to look near and somebody else to look far. And somebody to tell you, "Yeah, that's an anomaly."

[Possible SPOILER]

Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space.

I too found that region. Have built a station there (for fuel), explored the asteroid field, the planet (inclusive poles), wasted a myriad of sensor stations - nothing. And my Science Officer keeps mute. No radar blips, no Local Points in the Nav Map.
I then explored the sun, nothing.

Incidentally, I know it's about a very special device, but I have it already and could get it asap easiy if I lose it. I'm just doing this for fun, having already invested much time going from beacon to beacon...

Any additional tip is welcome, caus I want to conclude it, once I leave that system I won't spend any time going there again...

Thanks,
XenonS

There's other items in game we don't even know about yet, so who knows if there's another quest hiding.

Ok, it's a Sherlok Holmes type puzzle, yeah? The sort of: take away what doesn't matter and the remainder is the truth...?
If i do that with the nav map, this tells me I just have to visually spot something in the surrounding (space is mind-boggling big...)

The problem is: I see nothing, my method was to jump a long distance to see if a stellar object remains in place, if not, that must be the anomaly... But nothing. This means the Sxxx region is NOT correct information.

Is it possible that the final part of the puzzle doesn't 'trigger' because I ALREADY have that device loaded?

Last attempt, after that returning to normal systems.

If you were orbiting the S-planet before using the SESP (Standard Evochron Search Pattern), then it's hard to believe you never spotted the anomaly. Unless, like me, you did spot it but weren't positively certain it was an anomaly. In that case, you need somebody like Denny to assure you by deploying a sensor station in the suspected sector.

SESP ?
I have spend much time flying around the planet, in the ecliptic, out of the ecliptic (with larger Y coordinates), I have followed the rings in 100 km-steps and placed a sensor station wherever possible. BTW, you may spot more and different objects if you change your position relative to a sensor station, this is very important. With the dozens of ss that I have used, I only got green and white dots (ships, containers), no pink ones. Oh, and I have talked a lot with NPC ships, not to forget this one...

Sensor stations will only remain active in the same sector, once you leave they vanish like any cargo container or temporary object. Also only the inner cube (the 4 visible squares) of a sector is a possible building place AFAIK. I guess that in *multiplayer* you may be able to retrieve the sensor information (from your buddy) while being far away, but this is something I cannot do in SP.

I could probably widen the search to other sectors with the same 'paralax method', but then: I would for sure leave the Sxxx region (other planets not too far away are not Sxxx anymore).
In Sxxx, I only have spotted background stars; in the game they don't change position when moving through the quadrant, they are just part of a set of grafics. As said, an anomaly would be an exception but it means you have to see it in the first place (without knowing for sure), else this puzzle is just unsolvable - reasonably speaking.

As for the sun: This is the other place of Sxxx, but rest assured I checked every inch, even burning several times for my curiosity...So I will sort the sun and its sector out.

It's the song of Rolling Stones: You can't always get ...

If you give up, send me a U2U. But, I warn you, once somebody else has pointed the way, you will kick yourself for overlooking or dismissing the answer.

Thanks for your offer, Marvin. For the moment I decline it, but I will remember it in a future time

Because of the long distances involved, I will make sort of a cheat: I will profile-save and play in paralell :)
