EL Best way to export control config?

Post by DooKs »

I currently have my HOTAS setup and if i wanted to share my specific button mappings and axis configs, whats the best/easiest way to do that? Is there an export function im overlooking?

If its a .sw file, which ones contain the info im looking for?

Ide essentially like to find the easiest way to share every setting on the Axis Configuration menu as well as everything in the Key Mapping menu.

The main way to do that is to transfer the following files:

- keymap8.sw (key and button bindings)
- stickt.sw (axis bindings)
- sw.cfg (mode and global deadzone/sensitivity settings)

The receiving system will need to have the devices in the same order in Windows for the mappings to line up. So that would just be another step to check in the transfer process. You can optionally leave out the sw.cfg file and just have the other person select any custom global deadzone setting they may want. The keymap8.sw and stickt.sw files are the necessary ones.

You can also use the script system to manually generate a script file to apply button and axis mappings for a device in any ID slot (details are available in the ControlProfile#.txt files included with the game in the install folder). But just copying the files above would likely be the easiest way.

Either here or in the customizing forum, which ever you'd prefer.

How do I alter the order of my three devices?: my HOTAS used to be first, now it's number three! I've tried a few sessions of playing around but can alter the order. If it helps 2-> 1 and 3->2 :o

I've reprogrammed everything but it would be nice to know if I can avoid that hassle if it all changes again! :D

It's managed by Windows, so it's basically how Windows decides to list the devices. You can use Start > Run > type in JOY.CPL and press enter in Windows to select the preferred device, which places the one you pick in the top slot. Alternatively, you can also swap USB ports around to manually try and set up an order, but that's kind of a pain and it doesn't always provide the order you want. Some devices also tend to bump others out of order when plugged in.

If you are contending with three or more control devices that may change order, then you may want to set up a control profile script for each of your devices. That way, you can just select the device at the top of the axis configuration menu, then load the control profile you set up for that device to set the bindings in whatever device ID slot it is in.
