Exploring all the galaxy without being killed?

Post by XenonSurf »

I wonder if this is possible. Of course I expect some quests involving combat, also I cannot avoid to be hostile to some factions, but I could - even when difficult - avoid combat by warping to a pre-saved waypoint when in danger, but my topic question remains: Is it possible to explore all the places in Legacy without bothering about ship destructions or being an easy prey, I mean in Single Player?

Note:
It's not that I'm a faint-heart that wants no combat :)
I did it in all variations in EM, but because I'm new to Legacy, I'd like an 'Explorer' approach first.

Thanks,
XenonS

Stealth Generator (equipment, not single use) is a nice thing to have. Hostiles will generally move on if they don't see you. It also gives enough time to take short breaks away from the controls without pausing. It is also very useful if you are in the atmosphere of a planet and want to avoid NPC confrontation.

Keep in mind that in open space you can fly faster than the AI's top speed, so even if you don't have a Stealth Gen, you can still cruise right past them.

Really, if you know your ship and AI behavior, the worst enemy you have is the environment itself. ;)

Hi Rubber Chicken,

thanks for your tips, they will come very handy for me. Before blowing some stuff, I want rather concentrate on trading and flying around / exploring.
I'm currently going through the Tutorials, so I haven't "Launched" my pilot yet. I expect most things working like in EM, if so, I should have no major trouble getting started.

Thanks !

Quite welcome Xenon. :)

Just be careful if you are in atmosphere with hostiles. Out running them might not be as easily done as going faster than they can.

To be honest its easy to be a non-combatant.
Just fly around.
Get a fuel converter and mining beam.

If you run into enemies just jump away.
(If you are very hardcore into dodging the enemy forces)
Also get a deploy constructor & mine metals.

Then you can build a scanning sensor that allows you to see enemies & friendlies within a large area.

Hi DeathTech,
thanks for your tips.
Reading the forums, also on Steam, it seems that this Deploy device is now a must-have to get secrets and cargo containers. I remember that in EM when going planetside, some goodies could easily be found laying around, they were marked with a white square. I wonder if this was because of my Cargo C5 scanner, maybe this scanner helps you locate containers in EL as well? Now it seems much more difficult spotting containers without special devices. No more easy give-aways :)

Yeah as DeathTech said. Jumping away is a sure bet.
Also speed drifting is useful. Turn off that IDS and drift away from the foes.

Another tip for finding cargo boxes is a Science Ops. He will tell you about useful stuff in the same sector. Most of the time anyways.
A warning though, make sure to get his loyalty up to 100 asap, then he will never leave you when you dock at a station. To do that, overpay him a lot in the beginning and
don't worry about his skill. It will be maxed pretty soon.
