Humm...changing frame config is now expensive!

Post by XenonSurf »

Hi,
I'm happy with the new additions and changes to the Shipyard, but IMO changing the frame configuration of a ship now gets horrendously expensive, at least when starting with the game, later with a better credit account nobody will care anymore - if the prices for higher frames do not also increase...

I had published some important hints for EM in the past, saying how important it is to configure your ship correctly to sustain some tricky encounters when it comes to combat or defense. Essentially, you have to make a good balance between Components and Capacity to give your ship a good situation depending on what you plan to do.

I think that these high prices for changing your ship will discourage beginners to make any changes with the results that they will complain: "Oh, the game is way too difficult, I get killed in no time" or rants like these.

An example? I had to spent 9400 credits to take away 1 Countermeasure slot, 1 crew slot, and 2 other slots to increase my cargo to 5 slots.

Note: In my xx28 version of EL, only 4 cargo bay slots appear in the Inventory. Bug?

Admittingly, in EM you also had to pay for additional cargo space, but once you had them, the changes or new distribution in your capacity didn't cost anything.

My suggestion is to still make these frame configs payable, but please much less....

Hm, 9400 credits are really not much and easily earned even by a total newbie in 5 to 10 minutes. In my opinion many things in Evochron are unrealistically cheap anyway.

 And there you have it. Two diverging points of view on money. Which is why Vice tries to find the sweet spot between the two.

When starting with 40000 cr or less, 9400 are a lot. So people will be reluctant to make these important changes, me included.

I have edited the post above: there seems to be a bug with the cargo counters.

Of course everybody will need to experiment in the beginning, but soon players will realize that doing one or two simple quests (like transporting an item to a waiting ship or destroying asteroids in shipping lanes) will give them enough money.

I don't see where the problem is, even for new players. Except if they don't want to make civil quests at all.

OK, with the principle "what you can do in 5 minutes", 9400 is cheap, admitted.

Will have to verify if and why my capacity slots for cargo is different than in my inventory (that's a different problem).

I have to correct my statements above :)
In the cases where cargo and the new additions to the frame config are not concerned, then still it won't cost you to make changes. Good!
Also when diminishing your cargo, you get your cash back. Also good!

As for the cargo count: in the frame config it starts with 0, so if you count 5 slots, then you have 4 cargo containers in your inventory.

Sorry for all the trouble. Good game, I like it
