What do you do with money?

Post by J0shle0 »

I've been playing the game in my spare time for about a week now. I have a fully kitted Leviathan and about $15MM in spare change.

What is there to do with money once you've maxed out your ship? I know I could build a station, but I do not understand the point of that. It provides no income, and there is really no recognition that it is your station.

Should I switch to multiplayer now? Is there where the fun is at?

Also, are there any plans to nerf the drops that sensor stations detect? I play for 1-2 hours every night, and for the last 3 nights I've spent my time dropping sensors around planetary rings, and I almost always find 1 or 2 things worth well over $1MM.

Finally, are there any plans to diversify items that can be bought from stations? Once you have the mantis drive blueprint, money is basically meaningless since you can logout and relogin at the same station to buy the mats. I finally got the blueprint last night and made 5 drives in about 45 minutes without leaving an outpost in Sapphire.

I think if there were special items required to make the drive that could only be obtained in one place, and were limited in availability, it would be a lot better. The drive is clearly not intended to be a broken ATM spitting out cash. It's supposed to be a usable item that is rare.

That's my $.02.

Thanks for reading.

Such was a similar situation with Terrain Walkers (TWs). But the lack of their accessibility has drawn so many complaints that Vice has been mulling over a change which would increase the chances of somebody coming across a TW ... at a greater cost, of course.

I'm pretty new to this game, only like 60h in and got the biggest frame with a lot of goodies on. 6 mil at the bank. But there is so much other stuff that I need money for. Military frames for example. Also I find that having just one maxed out ship is not enough. It's slow, it's thirsty and boring to fight in.

Ofc course you can play this how ever you want, which is one of the best features, but I will invest in more ships and more advanced equipment and then have the freedom to really explore. Buying new expensive stuff when I find it, not being bothered by paychecks and so on.

Even a specialized beam can cost ya 1M. So less than 20M in pocket money is nothing.

 There is another way to play which costs money: using the same ship all the time but re-configuring it for different tasks. The trick is to make use of unaligned cities and/or building your own stations in hostile territory in order to dock, enter the shipyard, and make the conversion. Naturally, this trick works better with a civilian frame ... which, once you get used to it, can handle most any combat situation. And is far better suited for exploration and colonization.

Hmm, I feel like changing your ship back and forth doesn't cost anything. I mean it evens out, or do you lose a certain % when you switch frames and engines for example?

The only beam that costs more than $1MM that I am aware of is the plat beam, and I have it, and gold and diamond, and an antimissile system and an auto CM launcher and a mantis drive, and a fuel converter, and pretty much every other component.

I do think that leveling up militarily is probably my next step though. A Chimera sounds fun.

Re-configuring your ship sometimes means dropping an equipment slot in order to increase your combat capability ... or vice versa. So you sell and buy stuff at the market value of whatever your current location. That might mean a gain ... or it can just as likely mean selling and buying at a loss.

I use my money to keep the heating going on my ship.

I mean what else could keep us warm other than burning it as fuel and mood lighting.

On a serious note though. I do as Marvin said.
I spend almost all my money on constant modification of my ship.
Crew costs a fortune also.
Fuel for laziness because I get bored cloud humping every so often.

And most important usage for money of all.
Giving it away to new players.

I have all of mine stashed in a hanger. Every now and then when I dock I run over to the hanger and swim around in ma mulla like scrooge mcduck.

I also have to say that the more money that I have (higher rank) I get better things from NPC ships. Ask for info and get something handed to you for free. Sure! Thank you mercenary! But I didn't need it, sold it and then threw that money on top of the pile in the hanger.
