Is there anyway to zoom a map more? I can't get a very accurate location especially with items when I use the zoom map mode.

Please be nice, Im new to this game.

Also if anyone knows an answer to my tech support question that'd be nice, planets are hit and miss for me atm

Welcome to the game!

Come on Multiplayer and we can help....as far as I know no, that's as accurate as it gets, but it should put you within sensor range.

Are you using the y-Z plane as well? (default is x-z) x,y,z make a cube, all directions.

There's also a 3D mode to let you look around, but I can't recall if it helps or displays dots / targets, or just moves landmarks around.
Do, or do not, there is no try.

If you haven't found it yet, there is also manual coordinate input in the upper-right corner of the nav map. It's directly tied to your current nav marker.

Using that, you can set an approximate nav marker by clicking the nav map, then tweak the numbers to move the marker by smaller increments.

Not sure if that's what you had in mind, but I hope it helps!

Hi Captainedwin, welcome to Evochron!

Just to be clear... you know there are two disitinct zoom functions on the Nav map? One is to zoom in on sectors, the other is to actually make the Nav map larger so it fills the size of the whole consol. That makes it much easier to place an accurate waypoint. Sorry if you already know that. Apart from that there's no other way to zoom the map.

 Actually, there is. From the quadrant map, you can click (right or left ... I forget which) on any of the charted star systems to zoom in as if you were already in that system. You can then zoom in normally, down to a single sector. The only thing you won't see on the "remote view" map is man-made objects like cities and space stations.

Even on a 40" flat screen running at 1920x1080, It can be extremely difficult to see objects detected by the deployable sensor. Even if the sector is fully zoomed in, there's too much ornamentation on the sensor 'ring' and planets + other nav map objects obscure views. Switching top and rear views is only marginal help.

It would be nice if the sensor overlay worked for all map modes like 3D and etc. That way you'd really be able to focus on what you were wanting to see.

:o I only find it difficult when the blip is against a really bright area on the map ... where enemy ship blips wash out to look purple and real purple blips are washed out almost completely. In situations like that, flipping the map from Top to Rear view, back and forth, often helps (it definitely helped today).

I agree completely, those dots are just too small, specially for someone with tired eyes (like me) they are VERY hard to spot.
It would be nice if they could be made a little bigger. And it would be awesome if we could right click on them to set an exact heading to them like we do on stations/planets, etc.

Maybe there is a way to mod those dots so they are bigger?

I can't be certain, but you can check the Customizing Kit, HUD section, purple1.png ... that might work. Or it might not.

Try modifying the .png file mentioned above. I suggest making it look like the map cursor ... that way, if you overlay the cursor above the mod blip, you'll get the most accurate fix.

P.S. You won't get the "right click" option for any object except those which are transmitting a signal to your craft ... such as IFF information from friendly ships or beacon signals from sensor stations deployed by you or another player. Stuff like that. Hidden objects don't broadcast their position.

I did white instead of purple but I just gave modifying the white.jpg image to make it larger and that dot is used as a dot in the middle of the indicator on the radar map. That line expands and contracts depending on how far away from the target you are.

Ok, i downloaded the kit, but i see both the white and purple.png files are a grey(ish) color instead of white and purple, i asume the game engine gives them the appropiate color. do i have to preserve that specific grey color when editing them?

Just edit them and add whatever color you want. You can also edit the looks of them if you want.

No luck :(

I edited both purple1.png and white.png, several times, tried gaving them them diferent colors, diferent images, even resized them to 32x32, and those dots on the nav map are still the same size and color.

I did placed them inside a hud folder on the game's folder, but It seems that for some reason the game is ignoring those edited files, because i tested just changing the colors, and they are still the default. Its strange, because the custom hud im using works fine.

I wonder if im doing something wrong, or it just cant be done.

Hi, i only placed them on the game's folder. But i think i solved the "mistery" for why it doesnt work...

Those files are for the dots displayed on the radar (the round one on the dashboard), the ones i want to change, are the ones that display when your sensor stations pick up containers, beacons, derelicts on the nav panel (the one accessed by pressing F1).

The files are working, but on the radar, not on the nav map :(

Anyone know if there is a way to mod these (nav panel dots)?
If not, i think i will issue a "formal feature request" to our friend Vice, asking if its possible to make those purple & wite dots bigger. My eyes get sore (literaaly) trying to find them hehe.

In EM you could change the icons used for various things on the nav screen. I changed the station icon because a white station in a white asteroid field didn't show up well - and my ship wasn't visible when in the the station!! ;)

I suspect it will be just the same in Legacy once you know the filenames to use and if you ask Vice I'm sure he'll tell you . . . or why it isn't possible if it isn't

I don't think that there is an image file for the location/poi dots. I ran procmon while loading the game and saw exactly what it was trying to hit in the HUD directory. There may not be a reason for a file because it's just a few pixels being told to pop on in xyz location with color a,b or c.

While poking around I did modify my nav map to get rid of the larger/thicker lines that would get in the way every now and then. May go a bit further with thining things out a bit more.

The game also makes heavy use of your user profile temp directory. While the game is running you can hop into this directory and check to see some of the assets that the game has loaded. Look for the directory that has evo at the end of it. (Win7 location)

C:\\Users\\%username%\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\

As a side note, the game tries looking for a helmet and face image file....

That's probably your best bet. Either that or add them to the hud mod list.

This is helping me a bit at least so far. I'd like to see a way to increase the points as well but it can't hurt to tinker for now. A lot of copy/paste on the original. I might try to do something else with the sensor ring as well. Get it a little slimmer at least.

Rename to icon-map.png and throw it in the hud folder.

Taking notice of the three icons in the above screenie, it might be possible to make purple nav map dots show up better if the other icons were modded to make them darker. That way, the purple dots might show up better ... seeing as how they become harder to find when washed out by overlaying white icons.

Ah dang. Sorry to hear about the eye issues. :(

Started playing around with the sensor radar a bit. I may end up making it a bit more simplistic some more. I went with orange to help with the contrast a bit as the "friendly" dots blended in with the green of the radar. Haven't seen anything orange on the nav map yet so hopefully it doesn't conflict with anything.

There are 4 files associated with it so if anyone is interested I can zip them up and email them directly. Shoot me a u2u with your address.
