Possible Spoiler
While out tooling around I came across a point of interest marker but when coming up on it it turned out to be just a plain old asteroid. Destroying the asteroid revealed a beacon and when bumping up against it it gave the message below. I've tried a few things to get it to reveal this journey but no luck so far.
"To all who locate this masked beacon, a voyage awaits to deep space through firing fusion. Step carefully, for the journey is not for the careless or unprepared. But a reward awaits for those who find it. This beacon will regenerate its rocky covering."

oh my. PLEASE label that as a spoiler.
Especially if it wasn't a quest, that sounds like pretty epic stuff

If you're still having problems with the message, change "firing fusion" to "fiery fusion" and go from there. It might make more sense.

So I've been doing this and was lead to a certain sector......
What I'd like to know is do we HAVE to do this thing consecutively? Or can you die for example and pick up somewhere else and skip the steps you've already accomplished.
I say this because I went to the coordinates listed in a message and couldn't find a damn thing, I had died previously and hoped onto a save file which was a lot closer to those co-ordinates, because I like to work smart not hard...well play in this case.... Had a science guy, and tons of sensor pods throughout the sector I was directed to,...and nothing, just empty space.
Feel like I wasted 45 minutes. It's rather frustrating, and should not be that difficult. If I liked pointless play I'd have jumped on world of minecraft, ED or some other grinding game.
I'd much rather play for fun, not for grinding just to get one special item...that's really not fun and too close to "actual full time work" and I already have one of those.
That kind of setup really turns me off of quests and more to just contracts and multiplayer joint combat.

Hello,
Yes you can go back to the last stage you completed.
When you go to the Quest option, you'll see.

The question I have is, are all of the POI sectors that are part of 'beacon quests' still/back in their original place after the planetary system randomizing update?
It sounds to my like Matchbox might be asking about that, not the manually-activated quest.
ie; Find hidden beacon, follow instructions, find next beacon.
It sounds to me that Matchbox is asking if you need to 'touch' all the POIs in one session, or if you can save, then pick up at the next POI the next time you load up the game.

If that's the case, then no, you don't need to follow the message buoys, wrecked ships, data drives, etc. in sequential order. In fact, sometimes it's difficult to determine if the beacon you accidentally discover is the first in a series. Either way, you can take it up from the beacon you find* and go to the next quest point.
As for changes in location after the realignment of celestial bodies ... IM found one instance where that was, indeed, a problem. The follow-on data drive was in its original location but the celestial objects around it had moved. A good example of how making changes to a finished product can break a previously unbroken part of the game.
* Edit: The buoys, data drives, etc. of any of the beacon quests are hard-coded. They do not disappear in a manner similar to objects generated by one of the quest-quests. Ergo, you can find one and approach it any time to receive its message.

It's a bit tricky indeed. But being a stupid French and found it out where that was leading, I do believe everyone can find it out
The Harder part is probably find the first beacon place and succeed the first stage. The other part I don't think that was really that hard if you do have a civilian ship well equipped for exploration.

I really don't mind things that are puzzles, especially for a game like this when it is clever, use gravity for something, find this wormhole here, use these things together to make this rip in space time, solve this "fiery fusion" riddle there. Ideas like that or eccetra are perfectly fine when I can't figure it out and need help. Because then I know if I think about it a bit, it either makes sense through play-testing or its meant to be a teamwork moment / effort for the problem (if that's hinted!).
But as far as searching for a needle in a haystack (sectors are still huge, refer to my blind server posts) goes, it really becomes less about being clever and going OH of course, and more about, well I guess I need to search for days, which stops being fun, and would definitely turn off any new players.
Simple fact is "TWs", and any item shouldn't be exclusive to those who "know how, exactly on dead pinpoint accuracy every time how to get them".
It defeats the point of people customizing ships, making their own fun, and mods to spread from that.
I think a game of CTF with TWs and fighters in air support would be fantastic to setup and get going, but it will never happen if they aren't "fairly" accessible.
Cahem there's my rant.
AND not against the makers of the quest at all, I know it is meant to be fun and enjoyable and awesome and it all means well, I'm just giving my two cents as a typical person who'd be trying out the game and sticking with it or not as a fun hobby not a 2nd life.

So I'm assuming the firing fusion clue in the riddle means a star, and if it's not the one in that system, what am I supposed to do, investigate every star in every system? Someone want to spark my flame here with a PM? Marvin... I'm lookin at you, bro. Lol

I'd start with the closest ... keeping an eye on the list of sector objects found on the left side of your map.

One thing I'd want to point out in relation to this 8 month old thread - changes were made in an update shortly after such discussions were posted, which related to this feedback as well as others, to allow the end goal to be available on the open market, rather than requiring this beacon quest route. So if it becomes too frustrating and/or solving such riddles isn't something you're in to, you can still acquire what it offers elsewhere (this route is just optional now, as is any quest). Otherwise, Marvin's tip should help from where you are at with it.

Re: Possible Spoiler
Thanks fellas. I know I could ask AI pilots for coordinates or buy it in a high tech sector, but the completionist in me wants to go through the beacon hunt. All the other quests were so challenging and immersive that I've gotten addicted to seeing where the storylines will take me, even if it requires a little hand holding

There's a story behind what Vice posted.Vice wrote: - changes were made in an update shortly after such discussions were posted, which related to this feedback as well as others, to allow the end goal to be available on the open market, rather than requiring this beacon quest route.
One member of IM decided to occupy the star system which is near the end of the quest ... so that's where IM currently resides. But said member also decided to colonize one of the lower-tech planets ... and him without a TW. Which we wanted to test, due to changes made in game options for the TW. So I decided to go and find the actual quest-end location ... which (and this is a spoiler) was a good place to find a TW. Except I forgot what it was that made the quest-end identifiable.
But I did remember that Vice had "reduced" the requirement for acquiring a TW ... and so I suggested that other IM mercenaries go looking for a TW in a nearby place now available as the logical location for finding one. More than once, I suggested a specific location. Eventually, I think I found the quest-end but then realized I needed a specific piece of equipment ... which I didn't have. So I doubled back and decided to check the place where I'd suggested. And guess what?
Yeah, you guessed right.
