Lighted Cities? *ANOTHER idea*

Post by matchbox2022 »

Hello Everyone,
Match here with a new gameplay idea for everyone to pitch in on.

Depending on difficulty to make this work, I might email Vice about this if there's enough interest.

Ever looked at your city, or a city from the dark side of a planet, and couldn't see it?

Ever wonder why they can't afford lights down there?

Simple idea, have cities be illuminated, just like earth cities, and be able to see them from the dark side of a planet while in orbit.

Night vision mode works vine, but this is simply an immersion idea.

Considering being able to see ships lights when in shadow, or their exhaust from afar, I'm hoping it's a not hard idea to implement.

So basically, post your ideas, post your opinions about it,
and please if you want it, don't just say, yeah that'd be cool, only post you wanting it if its a REALLY good idea to you for immersion sakes...that'll be the only way I'll think it's worth it enough to push for the whole playerbase...so long as it isn't difficult for Vice.
I personally can live without, it just occurred to me in orbit last night that in real life I should see cities as being a spot of light in the immense black.
Do, or do not, there is no try.

Hello,

If there is a power module near by, other modules do light up.

Nice.

I have not yet played with Planetary stations, so I didn't know about that fact either. As for space stations, I never really payed attention to the station modules. I was too busy trying to figure out how to place modules in the 'Top-Down" view. A bunch of my weapon turrets are all messed up in the locations I wanted them. :D

Ill have to check that out, but do they stand out a lot when in orbit around the night side?

I am not sure. I assume the space stations light up. I remember frequenting a space station near Pearl, when I was ALC, and it was in the "dark side" of a planet. I think the ground station was pitch black, but then again.... it might not have a power plant near it.

I've always just activated low-light illumination (default is F11) to see cities.

You must be flying to the dark side of planets.

Zoom out on the nav map and see where the star is that is providing light for a planet.

Well that right there makes no sense.

Think about it...in orbit around earth you'd see lighted cities from space.

Why not bases?, they could make a light purple or white hue,...or something....if the lightmap were modable for any colour you want that'd be cool.

Not a big deal, but it'd probably be neat to approach the dark side of a planet, and if there ARE cities, you'd see these patterns of light in the distance on it.

You can see them. Check one of your other posts on the same subject ... where Vice has responded.

I have no trouble seeing the lights from cities with graphics set at high, I think the lights do not show when setting on medium and lower.
I remember not seeing cities on dark side of planet when I used medium graphics setting, which is why I started using low-light optics on dark sides.

Yeah exactly what I thought.

I play on servers generally, and those default to medium... so I'll try SP on high instead.
