Possible player to player trade bug...

Post by robert_loblaw »

My wife and I were trying to trade some equipment. I offered the piece of equipment to my wife. I asked her to trade this equipment for 1 credit. Well she thought the 1 credit was filled out because the entry courser looked like a 1, so she hit enter. The transaction took place and the piece of equipment I offered disappeared from my inventory but she didn't have the new inventory. We don't think her 1 credit disappeared but we do know that piece of equipment is now gone forever. It was worth 3.5 million credits. Sad face.

Possible player to player trade bug...

Did the receiving ship have the cargo space? It would be very rare for something like that to occur and if it did happen, it would likely be related to a lost signal/packet. What may be more likely is that the receiving ship did not have the cargo space for the item you were sending. And when that is the case, the item will be jettisoned out into space. It will remain there for pick up until both players leave the sector or sign out. If/when that kind of thing happens, review the message log for information on what occurred, that way, you can recover the item and try again later when there is enough room on the receiving ship.

She had one free slot and we were sitting still. There was not a jettisoned item hanging around us. We thought we would report just in case. Thank you for your speedy response and have a wonderful day.

Cargo slot or equipment slot? When trading, it will need to be a cargo slot rather than an equipment slot. Otherwise, if a problem is encountered, it will be reported in the message log. Might be worth testing a few trades with low value items just to make sure there isn't some kind of packet loss situation going on between your two systems and the server you are connecting to.

Sorry for being so vague.

My wife had a free cargo slot that we were trying to fill up. Good idea to test the trades with low value items. For the server, I am hosting the 2D private server on my computer (it is a powerful box) and my wife is connected to the same 1gb non managed switch as I am. As for packet loss, when dealing with computers and networks anything is possible.

Ah ok, if you are hosting locally over LAN, the chance of packet loss should be practically nil. Another rare chance that came to mind is if the receiver accidently closed the trade console or opened/closed the console in some other sequence causing the connection to be lost at just the right time to reject the incoming item. There are protections in place to prevent that kind of thing from happening, but it might be a possibility. An easy way to verify a proper trade link is to confirm that the 'Connect Gunner Binding' button is visible on both player console menus just prior to completing the trade (before both players click on the submit button).

Thank you. We will make sure to check that the "connect gunner binding" button is visible. Also you reminded me that I need to hire my wife as a crew member. Something I haven't explored yet. :-) Take care and thanks again.

Also experiencing player to player trade bugs but this involves getting the "Targeted ship rejected your trade request" message. Using 2d server version 1.0198 (though was present in previous version) and client version v1.0218. Enough cargo holds, close enough to the other player, no interference. We can even be sitting inside of a station, neither of us with any windows open or doing anything else at all and we still get the rejected messages when trying to trade with each other.

Rarely can we get a trade request/link to establish but when the stars align (closing out completely, reconnecting on both sides seems to somewhat allow it) or if we go out and about and do our own thing then come back. We've had to resort to jettisoning cargo in order to trade which turns into a pain in the butt.

Screenshot of us sitting out in the middle of nowhere. I'm formed up on him. Within 250 of each other.

I'd be interested in a screenshot of the nav map showing the current sector when that occurs.

I'll snag some shots for you the next time we are on and it happens. I can tell you that it has happened in almost every system from Atlas to Pearl and I think even the Pearl war zone. Specific systems though, I can probably get you coordinates because we've seen it happen when building stations and were needing to swap resources back and forth.

I suspect there may be an integrity check that is failing due to nearby asteroids. It's about the only possible cause I can think of, so I'm wondering if this is occurring in sectors where there are asteroids present.

We've built three stations in three separate systems (Sapphire, Cerulean and Atlas) and all three stations have been right on top of an asteroid field. To the point of where I've had to blast some asteroids to make sure that gates were relatively free of obstacles. You might be on to something there then but I am not 100% sure if the problem persisted outside of those areas or sectors after the initial failure to trade occurred.

*edit*

NM, just saw a new update go out with this fix in it. Thank you. :)

I do kind of peep other places from time to time on Evochron info. I'm not a reddit member but lurk from time to time. I saw someone else that possibly has the same issue.https://www.reddit.com/r/evochron/comme ... yers/Would you still like coordinates Vice? Would possibly connecting to a server and seeing this first hand help? I believe our server is no longer accessible without a vpn connection but may be able to get ports forwarded again so it is.

If the problem still exists, then I'd be interested in coordinates to test with. For now though, one potential cause that may have existed in the older build should now be fixed.

Fantastic. Thanks Vice for getting this sorted. If you ever do need additional testers then I'm always happy and willing to help. I've come across a couple of other items that I haven't been able, or hit the same variables, to recreate yet but if I do then I'll post them up with as much info as I can.

Thanks again good sir.
