[EL] Distress Calls in Legacy

Post by Delta99 »

I was reading one of the Mercenary guides and noticed that there was an option in the NAV area to "Enable DC" (Distress Calls).

Does this no longer exist in Legacy? Do Distress Calls even exist in Legacy? I've never received one or at least never noticed one.

Distress calls have been integrated into the contract/mission systems, so they now appear in the job board along with all other contract types.

Yep, the station contract board is now the distress message relay.

I kind of do miss EM's 'roving' distress calls thought. I would love to see both types present.

Probably not practical in a programming sense. Although it would be cool if all emergencies (including those inbound asteroids) were also broadcast in the clear ... docked or not.

Yeah, it kind of defeats the purpose to have a distress call happen only when you are docked at a station. It would be cool to have them come up anytime / anywhere.

They happen any time, but you only access them from stations to respond to the calls. The main reasons for this was to expand their capabilities and location relevance (requests from EM asked for ways to keep distress calls more local to the player, rather than scattered all over the quadrant so that the vast majority could never be practically responded to). That, plus more diverse call types, dedicated time limit mechanisms, and greater frequency were also reasons.

That and it was kind of a pain trying to figure out where the EM emergency broadcasts were coming from. And then trying to calculate if you could get there in time to make it worth abandoning whatever it was you were currently working on.

That was one of the parts I liked. :D Really though, I didn't want to open a huge "let's reinstate an old feature thread". I was just stating that if I had my druthers, I would have both old and new going on at the same time.

I'm sure I'll still live and have lots of good flights with the system as it currently is.

BTW. An Excal pack is good for at least 2 asteroids in the 'asteroid rescue' D.C. :P ;)

I would agree with Rubber Chicken that, that sounds like the fun part of them in some ways. Also, because they might tempt you to give up on what you were doing to go for one of them.

I also agree with Rubber Chicken that it would be nice to have both in the game perhaps.

 I find that carrying eight of any other missile works even better. Especially if you save them for that last asteroid plummeting to earth and out of gun range.

That whole mission idea was just a fantastic idea. It never really gets old. Love it.

And as far as distress calls go.....it'd be nice to have that as a feature not just receiving at a station, but while in space to SEND them as well.

It could be integrated as a nav button and cost a certain amount, like 10000k (depending on average fuel cost mostly).
Save a lot of hassle if you run out of fuel, and could really use just a pod to 100 of it to get a jump home, or outgunned. It could cost you money just like receiving trade info sometimes does, and depending on your location, either a friendly or enemy npc will show up depending on the territory % and chance.
So it's a mixed kettle of fish asking for help, but it would sure help in a firefight or when YOU run out of fuel :P, god knows how many NPCs I saved from that fate.

Another idea, another vote probably, but that's probably a good feature and doesn't wreck balance (I don't think)

Saves blowing yourself up when things are dire.
Do, or do not, there is no try.
