Adding music from Evochron Legends and Mercenary to Legacy

Post by haloterm »

I've read the customization kit's instructions on how to change music in the game, but I'm not understanding it 100%.

If I add the "music" folder and put music files as described in there - do they ADD to the existing music, or do they REPLACE it?

I simply want to add the background tracks from Legends and Mercenary to Legacy, to have some more variation without getting away from Rich Douglas' work.

I'm not sure if you start with musiclevel4-1.ogg that you can simply add to what is there or not.
Vice will definitely have to chime in on this.
(I'd like to know also, and might just experiment on my own to find out.)

If it's anything like swaping sound fx, it will replace the file ingame.

Or, do what I do and just have winamp running over the game. :P

I usually have in-game music off and play music from my iPod while flying (as I would when actually flying).
I can understand where people would like a way to simply add their own 3-song sets (remember that you have to have a complete set for each musiclevel).

All the mod files replace the existing files if they exist because they have the same filename - in EM new atmospheric mood music (safe - hostile area - imminent attack music) and station voices and equipment noises etc all replaced the original files.

I was under the impression that the original question was can you simply add to existing music.

The game supports 100 three-song sets, with the game only using sets 1 through 3. It is uncertain if you can simply start with musiclevel4 to add new music without overwriting default sets. I have not had the chance to find out because I don't have a media conversion application to convert my mp3s or mp4s to ogg fromat.

Thanks for the answers... so it seems I would have to put Legacy's music, Mercenary's music and Legend's music all into the music folder in order to make that work, and to rename them properly... and then hope that the game does not crash, right?

I added two sets without replacing the first three, and the good news is that the game did not crash.
I have not yet heard the music I added so I can not say that simply adding the sets worked.

Starting with musiclevel4 doesn't crash anything, but might need more sets to be activated.
