Hello guys,
I have the impression that the combat in Legacy is harder than in previous iterations (Mercenary). I am right or is just my imagination? Also what is in your opinion the best civilian frame for combat contracts? Finally I am really frustrated about weapon energy management, I am always short of energy for pew pew. Thx in advance Regards
Sorry for my bad english.

I never played EM, so I suppose I'm not stuck into a certain notion of thinking how it should be.
All I tend to know is from my newb point of view.
You will skid like a truck on ice any faster than about 2000 generally.
The combat frames will "hold" a turn at higher speeds.
Switching from inertial and back can sometimes be of great benefit.
Alt + ] is your friend.
Keep IDS on to help turns, "try" not to overspeed.
Big circles, basically drifting in space, can be accomplished with angling pitch around 90 degrees to your flight path constantly, and afterburner, without letting the angle drift too far from 90 degrees, lest you end up just slowing down with no tight circles.
I've found maxxing out your acceleration via shipyard and agility helps a lot when it comes to using pure thrust or ids to make a turn tighter....that said a frame that specializes in that, or a "light" one with a big ass engine would be adequate.
The biggest thing I found, was just playing in the shipyard.
Those modules make a big difference, but only if you play it toward your ships strengths. Aka chosing between energy/accel/shielding/ecm overall bonuses.
For example
10 energy points + an energy module + a level 100 Weapons Officer.
"@$$" ton of power in your cannons there.
1 energy point + an energy module....that's a 15% boost on an overall amount of energy that was never that large to begin with (if you're a missile chucker). Therefore that boost would be better off spent on shielding.
Got a good engine? great, you'd benefit from an even greater boost to turning with thrusters.
see what I mean? It's hard to get a balanced ship, and honestly the combat frames are better for it, but won't always have the firepower you want.
There's a lot to balance if you want a jack of "most" trades ship.
Then there's custom weapons ontop of that.
The best way to do combat is against NPCs if you want an easy time, but I try to practise more toward peer vs peer engagements.
THAT said
I'm not busy tonight, and would be happy to chat with you and practice
on a server. Preferably one where we can "see" each other.
Outer Rim would be a good choice depending on your ping.

Energy cores are your friend. If you want to outfit a civvie ship for combat you have to increase the energy core count in shipyard via frame config.
In Legacy I recommend using military frames for combat in SP, in MP you can use teamwork with civvie ships.
I take my military ship to where I want to work, then buy a civvie ship to mine/trade, then I swap to military ship to handle combat contracts.
Legacy is different in a lot of subtle ways from Mercenary or Legends, it requires different ways of thinking and doing things.
Best Evochron game yet, in my opinion. Have fun.

Yep, you're not alone in wanting to know about combat. Being good at it is a rare qualityFrom post: 186254, Topic: tid=12463, author=Sinchi wrote:Well ,

Energy works differently in Legacy. It isn't just a matter of what's installed in your equipment slots and how you've adjusted your energy bias settings. You also need to go into the shipyard and peruse over the options available there. Some of them will do wonders for your energy reserves.

Hi Sinchi,
Combat in Legacy is definitely harder, it's not something you are imagining. The NPC's are smarter, know how to run away if they have to, as well as having repair systems installed on some of their ships, the increased range of the guns also changes the dynamics of combat. Missiles are also something you no longer laugh at, one or two direct hits can absolutely wreck your day. Never mind the fact that if you take too much damage you can loose installed equipment (lost my repair system once). Once you got yourself setup in EM, combat against NPC's was a by the numbers game, in Legacy you have to keep your wits about you all the time or you'll be decorating the sky in a gorgeous fireball. Energy management is a much bigger component in Legacy, even with a good frame and efficient guns you will still have to manage trigger time effectively, I also find that moving your energy between shields and weapons happens a lot more than in EM . The Mdts is not as accurate as EM's especially out to longer ranges, a lot of it now is trying to predict where your target will be. So as Marvin so aptly put it, this is not your grandmother's Mercenary. But oh man what a beautiful experience it is.
