How does 'Rank' work?

Post by sythsillis »

I now have a mercenary designation as 'SKILLED' and have even won combat missions in planetary atmospheres (thanks to the advice of the veteran players]. Yet underneath 'skilled' I am still a trainee. Could someone clarify this for me. I'm rather puzzled.

In short, one is your 'civilian' rating/rank, the other is your 'military' rating/rank. If you complete military objectives in war zones, your military rank will increase.

Your rank that says 'Skilled' is your civilian rating. A civilian rating is obtained through completing civilian contracts and amassing credits through trading. Obtain 9999 civilian rank points to become a Legend. I'm not sure how many points-per-x amount of credits, but I believe that 1 completed contract = 1 civilian rating point. Keep in mind that completed contract points cannot be depleted, but if you spend down you bank account, points amassed through credits can be lost making your rank drop.

The 'Trainee' rank is your military rating. This rating is improved by completing combat missions against the Vonari in one of the 4 'Warzones' - Talison Conflict, Sierra, Cerulean, Arvoch. The sector of Talison warzone that you enter by passing through the gate from Talison proper is by far the easiest combat sector with all other sectors being significantly harder.

In the news console under the Player Stats section there is a heading for Military Rank with points recorded there. Reach 150 Military Points to unlock all the military ship types available from the carrier. Reach 999 Rank points to become a Fleet Admiral.

To gain Military Points you must complete warzone contracts. You will receive 1 military point for every 1 waypoint you complete provided you complete the entire mission. Hence a 5 waypoint patrol is worth 5 Military Rank points.

Raise your civilian rating to 'Legend', plus your military rank to 'Fleet Admiral' and you'll no longer have to pay those pesky docking fees in moderate and hostile systems.
You may find a few other not so obvious benefits as well.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks guys. Just one last question: can I gain military rank points as a miner\\trader, or will I have to switch to a military platform. I've grown fond of my Mammoth. It's a pig, but I put lipstick on it. ;)

You can take civilian spacecraft into military war zones and still earn military rank credit. You might want to tune/tweak it for more of a combat role in terms of equipment, crew, and weapons. It'll be a pretty effective platform in war zones.

A payback for ranking up is that you get paid more for contracts. You also have access to better mil ships as you move up through the Navy ranks.

Didn't there used to be a chart showing goals to reach to gain each rank, Money and Kills wise?

On SeeJay's site you'll find the "Evochron Mercenaries Hints and Tips Guide. (5th Edition)":

http://www.evochron2.junholt.se/guides/ ... ct2014.pdf
Section 8: Rank

This applies to Evochron Mercenary but I think it also does for Legacy.
