any nice to search for in 'empty' space?!

Hello,

NOw I've got around 10 hours of playtime, and still a hell lot to cover & discover, I'd like to ask maybe a stupid question: when you're in one system, and zoom out all quadrants, up to 90% of 'em are empty ones, is there any interrest of flying just through empty space, in the hope to stumble on something, or is it just, space, or will it some point of interrest show up once a mission started.... :-)

Whilst I'm still very enjoying the game, I need to think to get some sleep too ^^

There are a lot of systems out there in the void that does not show on your map. Only gated systems show on the map.

If you have a science ops with you, you might find some crates out there as well.

Yes, those are just displaying empty because you've never been there or aren't within nav sensor range, which is about 40 sectors.

If you're traveling in open space, look at your NAV map, you'll see the top says the system you're in. That displays the name of the closest planet. So say you're in Pearl and you go east. Then the system changes to Y567, that means you are now equidistant from where you were before (Pearl) and Y567. The trick to find Y567 and that's kinda easy using a compass and graph paper like HLFCabbaz does or you can be a sane person like the rest of us and use this tool: http://evochron2.junholt.se/main/planetsearch3.htm
Here's a video on how to use it, but I would be more than happy to show you if you're interested. In fact, I'll do a class on searching for hidden planets is people are interested. I'll stream my game on Twitch and people can watch and chat.

Yeah, I'm thinking I might just do a stream at a set time for anyone that wants to learn how to use the planet tool. Maybe I'll make a post for it, work has been killing me this week though. I'm on call and we've had a busy week so hopefully I can find like 1/2 hour to schedule a stream and just do it.

I'm new to EL. Once you find said planets are then then shown on your NAV map permanently or do you have to keep track of them yourself?

What else is there to find other than containers?

You can add them to your Navigation Log. The log automatically includes the planet's coordinates ... all you need do is add a name and whatever else you think important.
