[EL] Questions about system info, tech levels, and how I can affect such things

Post by Brian Paone »

Hi! Really digging the exploration/system construction aspect of things. I've found a few systems, learned how to use the construction interface, I'm having a good time. But I have a few questions, and I was wondering if anyone knew the answers:

1) In RE: system information - some systems I colonize show me data like planet information, system economy type, and so on. But sometimes, I click on the System Information button and I get nothing - it's as if the button is disabled. Any way I can get that information in certain systems?

2) In RE: station construction - is it necessary to connect certain modules directly to other modules (example: does a Production module have to be directly connected to a Power Supply module to bring it online, or just connected to the complex itself)? Also, regarding Vertical/Horizonal pieces - do I need to use these to properly connect certain components (like a Production module to a Power Supply module) or do they connect without having to use those?

Thanks! :-)

1) As far I know there is a button in the menu that is bugged but you don't really need it. Try going into your inventory.
Then enter news / information. And there should be a button to inspect the local planet etc...

2) Station components do not require to be directly connected but do require to be close to the station.

In terms of tech level & commodities.

The various station modules will have an impact on those.
More stations with more techy modules will for example increase the local tech level.
You can change the local control value closer to your faction's control simply by killing the opposing faction.

You can also build multiple stations within an area (as long they are properly placed far enough away from each other.)

And just in case I forgot something important check out my video on the subject matter:

Thanks a lot! :-) About that button though - that's the one I was talking about, when I hit F3 and go into News/Information. The System Info button seems to work in charted systems without fail, but in uncharted systems I will sometimes get the information and sometimes not. I was wondering if it was anything I was doing to cause that.

Not all systems provide information details. Most charted systems do, but uncharted systems and systems that are outside of the Quadrant (ie Sol) often won't. For systems that don't provide additional system information details, the button will not activate the system details mode.

Thanks for clearing up that button. It does really look like a bug though when it doesn't decide to pop up after clicking it.
Pretty much because no real feedback is given to the player about why it didn't pop up.

Perhaps it would be better to display a message saying there is no known addition information about that system?
Or simply open the window anyway and just place a lot of "unknowns".

I can probably add a text message about no system information being available. Currently, it does play the failed to activate sound effect when there is no system information available.

Oh, that is what that noise was. I failed to make the connection.
In hindsight that does make a lot of sense and I should have probably guessed that.
