[EL] Mouse bug and requests

Post by saiyuki »

Hi. Not sure if it's the right place to ask, but it's technically, ummm, technical :o

I forgot to say which version in the title - V 1.0148
A bug and a request -

1. Bug - Everytime i left click the mouse button, whether in a station, when mining, or making any selection in menu's, the ship moves to the right slightly. I never noticed it before until i was mining and decided to go through the menu's to find out what's happening in the region, only to find the mining beam had incremently moved, eventually moving off of the asteroid  No i didn't have sound enabled ;)

2. Request - In the region display, is it possible to slow down the scrolling. No matter how light a touch with the mouse button, the display scrolls several lines. Dragging the scroll button is very course and not at all suited for fine scrolling. Either please slow down the scroll feature, or provide up/down scroll buttons please.

3. Request - Is it possible to zoom in further when in the navigation panel. It's quite hit and miss trying to accurately select where you want to go. I select e.g. An asteroid, only to find after jumping to it i am still a long way from it. I know i can always right click the selection but at the high risk of jumping into an asteroid.

Regards

Hi,

1. Not sure about this. Does it happen when you're not in the nav menus? And by menu do you mean the ESC menu or just the Nav/Inventory/News menus?

2. Do you mean when you're zoomed out in the nav map, and you left click to zoom into a sector? It should only be going 1 level per click.

3. Right click on what you want to go to and it'll lock the little yellow crosshair thing to whatever object is under the mouse. In fact, most people have to use the right mouse to lock on something and then either add about 100 to the coordinates or use the left mouse button to click a little bit away so you don't crash when you finish the warp. With stations and gates you can actually warp/dock immediately. For gates, right click on the gate to lock the yellow point on it. Then make sure your pitch is 0 and your ship is facing either 180 or 0, set speed to max and jump. When you exit the jump you'll be lined right up with the gate and go right through. With hangers it's the same process except that you line up your bearing with the little blue triangles on your compass, 180 degrees is on, then like 35 and so on.

It sounds like you might have some mouse settings that are doing something. What kind of mouse do you have? Are you running any special profiles? I have a Razer and will try to recreate your issues so I can help further.

Hi Saiyuki,

Your mouse click problem sounds like you have accidently assigned left mouse click to the right strafe thruster. Check in the keyboard configurations, you can easily clear the mouse click if that's the case. (it sometimes happened to me)

For 1, as MCCON pointed out, you likely accidently bound mouse button one to the right strafe control. Clear the mouse binding to stop the control input.

For unwanted response from a mouse, check for settings you may have applied for the device (such as with programs like Logitech's mouse acceleration). The default action in the game is one step per click or mouse wheel movement, the only way to alter that is externally through mouse/acceleration settings.

For 3, in addition to the advice above, you can click on 'Zoom Map' to enlarge the map to 200% for more precise nav point selection.

Thanks for the quick replies.

The left mouse button was assigned to both primary fire and right strafe. I really don't recall ever changing control options but i must have :( I didn't think that it was possible to have 2 different assignments for the same control. Usually only one is allowed.

I used to have a roccat Kone+ mouse until the left button circuitry decided to stop working right after the warrenty run out. So i have an £85 mouse sat in a cupboard doing nothing. Now i use a relatively cheap mouse ;)

As for the zoom - maximum zoom in shows a 4x4 grid, but it's always a temptation to try to click a little bit closer to an asteroid (i know, lack of self control :) )

Again, thanks for the replies

Regards

There are two "zoom" functions: one zooms between one sector and more than one sector ... the other (bottom) zoom allows you to "blow up" the current map to twice its normal size (such that, whatever number of sectors are being displayed on the map, they are made bigger).

Thanks Marvin. Just too much information to take in too quickly reading the manual ;)

Removing one of the doubled up mouse button assignments has also cured the scrolling problem i has as well.
