I've spent what seems to be ages in the tutorials (no bad thing, this game needs them) and I'm wondering if there's a way to assign dual button presses to use with my hotas, for example button 4 on my thrustmaster is for afterburner but pressed together with button 3 it toggles IDS on and off. Basically I'm looking for a way to avoid the keyboard as much as possible on a joystick with not so many buttons. Aside from that, this game looks like it may well be the space game I've been looking for for years.

Unfortunately, no, not internally. The entire framework was designed around only ever requiring single key or button presses rather than combinations (with a few exception for alt-key combinations). However, the TM may support profiling software that allows you to assign multiple buttons for individual functions.

I added a pair of Thrustmaster Cougar MFD each of which has 20 buttons and 4 rocker switches - enough to group 'ship activities' and lose the keyboard (apart from chat, but if you play with voice chat then no KB required!)

Ok. thanks for the replies, it's a shame it can't be done but it's nothing I can't work around. Those MFDs look interesting, I'd not heard of them before. Not sure where I'd be able to put them though!

They're based in an F16 display- a square of (lit) buttons and rocker switches - in the central part (crt displays in real life) you can put in whatever you want; I've got a back lit map of the Evoverse in one and the plan of an asteroid cave in the other. They're not expensive, especially given the superb build quality.

Cheers for the info, I may have to look into getting a pair at some point. It depends on how much I get into this game, at the moment it's looking really good on that front.

I have an X52 but I also use Voice Attack for many of my commands rather than making my HOTAS setup too complicated. :) You can find some Voice Attack profiles available at the SeeJay's site - http://evochron2.junholt.se/ - or easily create your own.

Voice Attack is $8.00 at http://www.voiceattack.com/

I think Vice is now looking into supporting chord bindings (more then one button press for a single command).
Stay tuned to the upgrade topic for if/when this is added.
