Legacy - Some bugs and a question

Post by pilotnewbextraordinaire »

First off, thanks for making a great game. I've never been one for space sims and this is EL is really my first step into them. I initially downloaded the demo and went through all of the training and then decided to go through with the purchase. I much would have rather have bought directly from because I'd much rather support a dev directly than put money into a changer's hands but just enough funds to purchase the game were sitting in a "punk" account so the purchase of was done through THE middle man. :/

I'm enjoying the game so far but I've come across a couple of bugs and something that I'm a bit miffed about.

I saw badken's post about slow progression and such so I decided to refit my ship and head off to do some mining. Got to the starter asteroids and then realized I didn't purchase a mining beam, went back to the space station, purchased said mining beam and then hit the asteroids again. Took just over 50 fuel for the entire stint of there, back and there again.

While mining an asteroid I wanted to test out my superior piloting skills by trying to maneuver around the mining target but I got a bit carried away and plowed straight into my mineral rich friend, with my mining beam still going full force. I was then greeted with the option to reload from my last save, which I did. As soon as the last save started to load I could still hear the sounds of the mining beam going even though the save was loading my ship that was sans mining beam. On top of, and this has happened many times so far -username checks out- after I've met a demise and had to reload from my previous save, the slot where I purchased the mining beam from is still there but there is no text in the slot and repurchasing it is not an option. To continue on with the game I have to go back to the main screen, reload my pilot and then reload the game. Bug or bugs, either or, I'm sure nothing from above is intended gameplay.

As far as my question, I'm having a hard time understanding how the game handles quests. So far I've taken upon a quest, many times, that requires gathering resources. For one reason or another, from running low of fuel and needing to refill to filling a cargo bay with other stuff because I couldn't find ANY of those dang birds, going to any sort of base and docking for any reason cancels the current quest. If those quest givers don't understand that life (quests don't carry over between saves?? :( ), refueling or impulse ship upgrades happen then I don't think that I can justify wasting my time to take on their tasks. Which, to me, is kind of a sad state of quest giving/taking/expectations. So, what is up with this?

I'll keep trying to rock out with my transponder out but there's a few things that are making the game a bit of a challenge.

Yup, not intended, should now be fixed for the next update.

If you accept a contract (rather than quest objectives, which generally refer to something else), you are then bound by the terms of that contract. If you leave the sector, it will fail. If you dock after accepting it without the required material, it will fail. Contracts will be considered failed/abandoned if you save and exit or just exit. So only agree to a contract when you are ready to complete it and not leave the area, want to do something else, or want to leave the game. Otherwise, you'll either fail it upon the invalid action or you can cancel it manually if you want/need to go do something else.

Thank you sir and thank you for the explanation. I'll keep that in mind the next time that I decide to take on a contract from another one of those beady eyed scalawags.

So I've been trying to tackle the contract to get 5 flying species from the local starter planet. This last time that I excepted the contract I went down to the surface and started mining some materials from the planet while keeping an eye open for flying specimens. I went into an area that was teaming with them and ended up grabbing 6, which were stored in cargo bay 5 I believe (currently have 7 bays). I did some more mining to finish filling up the rest of my bays with minerals and then went back to the space station to turn the contract in and sell of the other stuff. Once I docked, I received a message saying that the contract wasn't met, even though I had more than the recommended samples.

So can I only have just these specimens in my hold and nothing else or do they have to be in cargo bay 1 and no where else? Sorry for the confusion/question on my part here but that is a bit confusing for me.

I'm really liking the game and after watching some of DeathTech's tutorial videos, I'm feeling a bit more confident about many other items that aren't in the, very well done btw, initial tutorial.

Hmm that's odd. You returned to the same station that gave the contract? I don't think there's a time limit, and you didn't leave the sector?

I went from the space station, to the planet that's right next to, did my business and then went straight back to the same station. Never left the sector or went to any other station or did anything else besides mining on the planet's surface.

This is literally all that I did.

Hmm, I'd email Vice, maybe he can figure it out before the patch that's coming real soon.

I can give a go on trying to recreate it when the contract pops up again. I jumped from right outside the station to space above the planet. Then cruised down until I hit the atmosphere and then started mining, jettisoned a few units of oxygen here and there to free up bays along the way, snagged a bird then got the rest of. I could have swore I only grabbed 5 but after I got back to the station the bay showing the Bio-1 units showed 6. I don't remember exactly which bay the Bio units were in exactly but I know it was either 4 or 5.

I checked the codebase and it looks correct for all possible in-sector parameters, regardless of where the biologicals are at in the cargo bay. If it happens again, please save the file at the point where you receive the failure notification and e-mail it to me (starwraith.com > contact). Or if you still have it handy with the biologicals on board. One possible cause where that might have happened was if you accidently picked up plant material in place of what was supposed to be animal.

Thanks Vice. I'll send on the data if it happens again. There's a good possibility that I did pick up plant material along the way and I'll chock it up as that for now. Thanks again and keep up the good work good sir.
