Federation Start

Post by marlowe221 »

I started a new pilot and chose to start as a member of the Federation faction, just to see what that was like.

But I was very confused when I started the game and was in the Pearl system. No one was hostile to me and I was able to dock freely. Did I do something wrong? I was in singleplayer - is faction choice online only?

Is that how it's supposed to work?

If indeed you started as a Federation pilot and ALC AI failed to attack, that doesn't sound right. :o

Sierra is the default location for Federation pilots. Which profession did you select?

It might ... but it would be a bug. If you have the time, try starting as each of the other FDN professions and see where the game initially puts you. You can use a different slot for each ... then delete them after making the tests.

OK, I will do that. I usually go home for lunch since I live very close to my office so I will test accordingly and report back in this thread this afternoon.

Thanks. The only thing I can think of is that, if you've used the same profile slot for an ALC pilot and then switched it to a FDN pilot ... some old info might not have been deleted. But this kind of troubleshooting is Vice's bailiwick ... but I'm pretty sure he could use the data from your tests.

I have tested all starting options with the Federation start and they all seem to work properly.

I can only assume that I thought I had chosen Federation and, in reality, did not.

False alarm!

 I would guess that Vice prefers false alarms to time spent tracking down real bugs. ;)

I managed to do this as well, One of my pilot starts I choose ALC Merc I was into Pearl and everything wanted to KOS even though I deleted the pilot slot I still used the same slot each time to try both starts with the same profession. Sounds to me like old information is sometimes left behind when you clear a pilot slot and don't exit the game before making a new pilot.

p.s I used the same callsign each time so this may have caught the game a little off guard :/

The key phrase in your post is:
...and don't exit the game before making a new pilot.
That happens sometimes. In EM, there used to be carryover if you went directly from one server to another ... or from-to SP to-from MP. Even though Vice works hard to eliminate such carryovers, I usually exit the game anyway to clear out any possible undeleted data.

Yea, I came to the same conclusion that it was carry over and since restart the game fully when deleting characters if I choose a different faction.
