While I'm making a whole string of newbie threads, I'm considering getting a nice military frame to head out and do some military contracts and a little more killing than mining.
My concern is, what happens to the three crew members I have in my current ship that are up to 100/100 stats and that I've built a loving relationship with? Science Ops likes to cook, my Navigator knits the best sweaters, and my Weapons officer is an amazing theremin player. I'm worried about my friends! Will I never see them again?
What happens to my crew?

I think you still lose them but you can save to a profile # not being used (Maybe two saves) then store your ship as a test.

They will enter an inactive state where they won't be actively helping your ship, but will be ready to rejoin a civilian ship as soon as you return to one.

You can now send you crew on paid holidays.
Just drop them off at a station by storing your ship in the hanger and they automatically get 5 star hotels and all the luxuries.
This way you can then go to carrier and got into your military ship and fly dangerous combat missions knowing you faithful crew is safe.

Thanks everyone for your fast and accurate responses! I really love the community for these games. You guys really seem to care and know what you're doing. I definitely doesn't hurt that the Dev himself is willing to answer questions for newbies.

Just want to ask a clarifying question here. While they are inactive, they still have to be paid, right? I mean, they still have to eat even when on holiday.
