Container Located at Such and Such...Then What?

Hey folks, I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I honestly had no idea how to even search for it.

I recently hired a science officer, and it's great having one, but one part confuzzles me. When entering a new sector, they'll say something to the effect of:

"Container(s) detected at bearing 112 pitch 1"

So I fly off in that direction...and fly...and fly...and fly...and I never see anything resembling a container.

Is there something else I'm supposed to do here, or am I missing something? Any advice/direction would be very appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Brian,

WHen you are searching for a container, look out for a purple blip on your radar.

It's difficult to locate containers. One way to do it is to search a second time from a different direction... so jump out of the sector then jump back in again from a different side. Then try to estimate where the two paths intersect.

Another thing you can do is deploy a sensor array. If you position it correctly it can detect the container (purple blip) and will show you in the Nav map.

There is also a player-made tool which does a trilateration calculation and gives you the exact coordinates for the container... check out SeeJay's website.

Hello,

The purple blip only shows up on normal scanners when you are 10K away.

Remember that some containers are on planets or asteroid fields and can be very hard too see.

I hate the ones that are near a planet. I can seldom fnd them even with jumpng in from different directions.
I can't tell is they are onthe planet or onthe other side of the planets or off in space.
I have foudn the ones in Sapphire and a few other places but some I just gave up on.

For blips on or near a planet, use both the Front and Rear views of your navigation map. Use map zoom to increase the size of the map (not the zoom for expanding the number of visible sectors). That way, you can more easily determine if the blip is on your side of the planet or the side opposite you.

That's my point - I can't never even find the blip inthe cases I mentioned. If I had it on radar I'd have no problems.

Use a sensor station to find the blip on the Navigation map. Then set a waypoint above that point, high enough above the planet so as to not blow up after jumping. Then select "Planet" on the left side of the Nav map and jump to the new waypoint. Re-set the waypoint to the blip, adjusting the waypoint in both Front and Rear views. Then fly manually toward the waypoint ... keeping an eye on your radar. Eventually, the blip will show.

I'll have to try that sometime but usually I don't have a Deploy with me unless I'm doing combat contracts - which I haven't done much of recently.

There is a location tool spreadsheet with directions on Seejay's site. evochron2: http://www.evochron2.junholt.se/
It's in the tools section, under tools. It's called containerfinder
If you don't have excel, as I don't have it on this computer, then you can upload it to your Google drive and use Google Sheets to use it.

Set your speed to 0, jump into the sector where the science guy says the pitch/heading. Record those numbers, jump out and jump back into the sector at a different spot. He'll give you different numbers, put those in the sheet and it'll spit out the coordinates.

Hey, I tried the spreadsheet and it didn't seem to work. Sectors are sized differently in this game so might that be causing the problem?

The sector still has the same size in values (-100.000 to +100.000) so it should work if you use it correctly.

If you're good at vectors you could find it yourself, too bad the nav map doesn't make a line with the option of remembering.

Until SeeJay came up with his little spreadsheet, I'd plot each jump point to the Map Log ... leaving a line of plots which acted like a vector line.
