Hi, i'm not sure if its a bug but i'm pretty sure you are not supposed to get killed inside stations.
I came back from a trade run. Sold my trade wares and got called away for about 10 minutes just to come back to the "destroyed, respawn from last save or quit" screen.
I was docked, inside a station, that was friendly.
This sort of stuff shouldn't happen.
Since this was multiplayer I lost alot of wares value because prices went down after I sold them the first time.
So are we supposed to be able to get killed inside the docking port of the station? Or is this a bug of sorts. Because I see shields when I enter a station indicating that I should be shielded from harm by the station.

Did you save when you docked? You should have auto-save on when you dock, it's a life-saver and use ALT-F9 to quicksave. If you're in a station and you hit ALT-F9 you'll save immediately, if you're in space, you must come to a complete stop and it will charge you 10 fuel.
Yes, you can be killed in stations, and it's usually the station itself. If you press the left mouse button and fire your weapons the station will see this as an aggressive action and terminate you. This happens a lot when you ALT-Tab away from the window because the game still captures the LMB presses. What I usually do if I know I have to alt-tab in a station is press BOTH ALT buttons at the same time. This will permanently unlock your mouse cursor, and will make sure you don't accidentally fire. To resume control, press both ALT buttons again.
I'm not sure if hostile projectiles can get through the blue energy field at the the end of the hangar doors, but if you alt-tabbed when you got called away and pressed LMB this is probably what happened.

I do a variation of this, usually by leaving the Crew Management console or some other window open in the station open so my LMBs aren't registered as particle shots, but instead as clicks inside a screen where the only active button(s) aren't in a place I can accidentally click them. From post: 183412, Topic: tid=12288, author=Bodega wrote:Did you save when you docked? Agreed, this is something I do as well. Though I try not to leave my inventory up anymore because I think I accidentally sold my shield battery and cargo scanner last night. Thankfully I had just saved when I docked so I was able to reload the save file by self destructing. From post: 183415, Topic: tid=12288, author=Serayl wrote: I do a variation of this, usually by leaving the Crew Management console or some other window open in the station open so my LMBs aren't registered as particle shots, but instead as clicks inside a screen where the only active button(s) aren't in a place I can accidentally click them.

Another thing you can do is enter the station... that's to say click on "enter station". Once you're in there any mouse clicks or other controller actions won't affect your ship.

Thanks Sinbad, I always forget about that menu. For anyone that doesn't know what we're referring to, you can press ALT and hold it down to release your mouse cursor. You can then click on the buttons at the top, to the right and left of your compass. There is a menu to the far left (IIRC) that allows you to do different actions.

I think Sinbad is talking about entering the station after docking. The option is in the upper-left part of the Inventory menu. You'll know if you've entered the station because you'll then have the option to enter the shipyard. When in the station (as opposed to being "docked"), other ships cannot attack you. And the reason they can attack you when you're docked is because their weapons can penetrate the shield surrounding the docking bays.
