Most likely stupid question

Post by dshipp82 »

Just starting out with this series (LOVE IT), playing Evochron Legacy. I understand autopilot for long distance jumping (1mil+ distance etc), but what about for distances such as 1000, or 700, which can take me currently 15-20 minutes to fly at max speed.

Just curious if I'm missing a separate speed factor (setting multiplier to 9x and max speed, and autopilot i know about, ignoring afterburner), or a time speed up factor.

If not I understand 100%, just like the X series :D

Your jump drive can take you almost anywhere ... even close to a planet (use the option on the left side of the Nav screen to set a safe jump point). Exceptions are: planetside (the friction will kill you) and from inside a space station (clear the launch bay first or the barrier will kill you).

Also, use Numpad 7 and 9 to increase and decrease your IDS. There is no speed limit in space, but remember you'll take a long time to slow down. To stop quick I use afterburner in reverse by using the / key (well I have it bound to a extra mouse button) so I can hit that and TAB and quickly slow down.
Also, if you're in inertial mode, the key , and . will accel/decel infinitely. but yeah, there is a program called TravelBuddy for Evochron Mercenary that was good, not sure it works with EL, but it would tell you about how long and how much fuel you'd use for long trips without jumpgates.

Also, you don't need to point to the NAV when you jump so make sure you point somewhere clear and set your speed accordingly during the jump so if you're jumping somewhere close, say an array, you don't go flying into it. You can also jump directly into hangers and through gates if you set pitch to 0 and bearing to 180 for gates. Hangers are a little trickier but I think they added the notches on the bearing compass for those. Used to be some 3rd party compasses with the hanger notches on them.

The new Legacy Travel Buddy (renamed as Navigator's Assistant) is almost ready for release ... to be available at SeeJay's website.

 Yup. And Vice will be updating the Customizing Kit's readme file so that maybe I can add one more option.

P.S. And, if I can't figure out how to add it, my son can.
