Demo-Using mouse crashes demo

Hello. Elite Dangerous Horizons fan here. Just saw that this is available and am very interested. However I spent a lot on EDH, and would like a couple of hours on the Evochron Legacy demo to see if it's for me or not (I really couldn't get into X3 Terran Conflict for instance).

On starting, I see the fields to fill out the license info and some buttons to Start Demo, Go to Website etc. But whenever I get my mouse near them the game crashes with a "Evochron Legacy has stopped working message".

I can get past that screen by just hitting Enter and then get the Callsign and Starting place screen, but again as son as I get the mouse pointer anywhere near a button or text box, the same crash happens.

4 GB RAM
GTX 770 2 GB grafix
Logitech G9 mouse
TrackIR
Saitek X52

Here's hoping you can help... I really want to like this.

It would appear your system doesn't want to play the mouse over sound effect for some reason. What kind of sound system are you using on your computer (make, model, and driver version)?

OK here we go. Sound card is an Asus Xonar DGX plugged into a PCI-E slot. No problems with any other games or sims. Onboard sound disabled in BIOS since PC arrived 18 months ago.

I had an outdated driver but downloaded and installed the latest (plus reboot to be sure) and now I am using:

Provider: ASUSTeK
Driver Date: 02-Jun-15
Driver Version: 8.1.8.1823

Same problem still.

Can't explain it then, I'd have no idea why playing a wav sound effect would produce that. One option might be to try the onboard audio just to see if you get a different result.

Yep. Strange indeed. I'll have another try tomorrow. At least we have an idea of what's causing it. Thanks anyway.
