Shipwreck Hunting in Olympus: Mission Debriefing and Report
This thread serves as the posting board for the Clan's missions. Suggestions and requests for missions are encouraged and can be submitted by any clan member.
Any clan member who comes up with a suggestion for a mission must send a U2U to Sinbad (Mccon). The suggestion/request will then be submitted to Clan Command for approval, and the mission briefing will be posted here on the missions board. Anyone interested/able can then volunteer for the mission, co-ordinating with each other for time zone and server.
Only mission objectives which have been approved and issued by Clan Command will be valid as officially representing Clan UE interests.

Mission Briefing:
Pilot Sinbad has recently acquired intel about the location of a possible unknown discovery. Little is know about the nature of the discovery but we believe the reports to be worth following up. Further details are classified but will be disclosed in the mission.
Sinbad plans to set out on an expedition in an Explorer Class ship and requests support from pilots of the UE Fighter Escort Wing.
Any volunteers interested in joining the mission can post here to co-ordinate time and server.

TBird, I've been checking the latest charts of Evometrics and it seems that to date no-one has logged anything at the co-ordinates that we're going to investigate. If there's anything of interest there we could be the first to find it.

Shipwreck Hunting in Olympus: Mission Debriefing and Report
*Possible Spoilers*
Accuracy of intel: A more detailed analysis of the intel revealed that the target location was not in the Cerulean area, but in fact was in the Rigel/Sirius area of the Evochron quadrant. The co-ordinates we received were accurate and led us directly to a new discovery.
Nature of discovery: At approximately 00:30 GMT+1 on 18-2-13 [UE]49rTbird, [UE]Sinbad, and indi pilot Jk-77 reached an uncharted system and discovered at least one planet. The system is not found on known universe maps (data will soon be uploaded to Evometrics).
Mission Objectives: Initial mission objectives were fulfilled. Two explorer frames and one fighter escort were on the mission. Successful use of long-distance formation flying. Comprehensive deployment of ship resources, ranging from build constructors, refuelling each other, frequent journey data updates (thanks to the H2GE Nav Computer from Marvin), and combat defence. Secondary mission objectives remain: to continue exploration of the system and look for other planets.
[UE] Sinbad's Pilot Log:
We rendezvoused at [UE] HQ in Iota and kitted out our ships with equipment appropriate for an expedition; build constructor, sensory array, terrain walkers, fuel tanks. Indi pilot Jk-77 volunteered to join us as our fighter escort. His services were immediately put to use as we were attacked by hostiles while we cleared dry dock.
After a full nav systems check the co-ordinates were punched in, and we all jumped simultaneously. We needed to tweak our formation settings a little for the first few jumps but eventually we were coasting along across the vast black expanse of deep space. We had a couple of fuel stops, in which Jk-77 dispatched some wandering pirates. His Evoch proved an invaluable companion to our slower Starmaster frames.
After around 40 minutes of FTL jumps a planet showed up on the Nav Map. It had a strange space station orbiting... the bottom section of the station appeared to be dis-used with non-operative docking gates. The upper section was like a normal station. Traffic in the area was sparse... I saw only one neutral phoenix frame and a hostile transport was parked by the station.
We descended to the planet, landing by the edge of a dried-out sea plain, and set out in terrain walkers to explore the surface. The planet was barren and uninhabited. The vistas were more alien than I had ever seen before: an arid brown landscape with a greenish-yellow atmospheric haze. We trekked across the plains until we came to a mountain range where we found a long-lost cargo container of silver. Then we hiked up to the mountain top where we stopped to take in the views of this alien landscape. As it was starting to get dark we headed back across the plains and got back in our ships. Tired and hungry after the long expedition we decided to take off and head back up to the station for some food and rest. The presence of the station indicates that the system is populated, but there were very few travellers out this far. In the morning we'll set out to explore the rest of the system... perhaps we'll find an inhabited planet.

Shipwreck Hunting in Olympus: Mission Debriefing and Report
Mission briefing:
Rumours suggest that there may be a shipwreck somewhere in the Onyx system.
Clan UE is to mount a search operation to verify these rumours, and locate the position of the wreck. Once located, data is to be gathered regarding the condition of the ship, identification of ship class and faction, and any possible salvageable parts.
A report of the mission outcomes is to be posted here. However, specific co-ordinates of the shipwreck's location must not be disclosed to the general public. Such information is classified and for Clan members only. As with all discoveries, the information can be uploaded to Seejay's website (if not already done so).

Mission Briefing:
I have received some intel from an AI pilot relating to the possible location of an uncharted system in the north-eastern region of the Evochron Quadrant.
After checking the co-ordinates with Evometrics it seems that this location has never before been logged on any other known maps. If there is something there, Clan UE could be the first to reach it.
Further details are classified but will be disclosed during the mission.
As soon as I have a window for launch I will be setting out in my explorer class frame to investigate.
Any volunteers who wish to join me on the expedition can post here to co-ordinate time and server.

Shipwreck Hunting in Olympus: Mission Debriefing and Report
Mission Briefing:
The presence of a shipwreck in the Olympus system has been known for some time, as indicated in the IMG/Over The Hill Quest. Recently I have attempted to verify the location of the wreck as reported in Evochron star maps. However, my initial fly-bys of the supposed area have been unsuccessful in confirming its location. I suspect that the wreck is lying on the planet surface, and that planetary rotation is resulting in ambiguous map data.
Clan UE requests assistance from UE pilots and non-UE pilots, to form a planetary survey team. The aims of the survey team would be to scan the planet surface, and locate the wreck. Participating pilots should be prepared for long-duration atmospheric flight.

Hey Keitarooo,
No, the shipwreck hasn't been found yet... at least not by UE. Let's organise a search operation!

Shipwreck Hunting in Olympus: Mission Debriefing and Report
**Possible Spoilers**
Accuracy of intel: The coordinates we were given were not precise. We were only able to identify which planet the wreck was supposed to be on. Similarly, information listed on Evometrics only gives the planet. No further information regarding a more specific location is available. However, a tip-off from a classified source provided a range of Y coordinates that the wreck may be found. This narrowed it down to the equatorial region of the planet. It is concluded that the intel was not accurate because of the effect of planetary rotation... As the wreck was on the surface it would never remain fixed at the same X and Z coordinates.
Mission objectives: Initial mission objectives were successfully completed. Two explorer frames were deployed, flying in formation for extended periods of time across the planetary surface. A waypoint marker was fixed along the equatorial region of the planet surface. This waypoint then provided a visual guide to maintain a search pattern along the equator. The wreckage was found in this region, and Sinbad and Keitarooo utilised Terrain Walkers to assess the wreck up close. Nothing of value remains in the wreckage. However, a hidden container was found in low orbit directly over the wreck's position. This was possibly something left in place by the occupants of the ship before it crash-landed on the planet. Secondary mission objectives were also completed: Discovery and salvage of several lost cargo containers. These were found a considerable distance from the shipwreck. It is believed that they may have been the debris from the ship as it broke up on atmospheric entry.

We did actually use a sensor array to begin with. But because the planet is located in the bottom corner of the sector the sensor array could only cover about half of it. Turns out the shipwreck was just outside its range.

Haha Yes! It was our bad luck that when we set up the sensor array the wreck was on the other side. I don't know how long it takes for a planet to make one rotation, but if we had turned up later we would have seen it on the sensor. But that's the fun of having rotating planets in the game!

I would be curious to know the rotation period of a planet in the game too.

The Outer Rim seems to have the most people playing at one time. You can right click on the server name to see a list of people playing without fully connecting.
